I really missed that Shawn will come up with his own Spyderco design!
Certainly curious now what it might look like...
I'm pretty certain the bladeshape and handle will keep to his "Trapper" design, a nice sweeping blade and a rounded, comfortable handle. I'm definitely curious how the knife will look like closed and how well the curvatures fit into each other if that makes sense. I'm also curious what locking mechanism will it use (Backlock/Compression/CBBL would all be perfect fits imo).

Finally another CBBL knife would be great! Though the Trapper o its current form has a bit of a
narrow front part of the handle to fit this lock type in perhaps?
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Liner lock, frame lock and compression lock are the easiest to desing a knife around it. You dont have to incorporate anything special, because locking mechanism completly clear the way for the blade. No need for a choil, ricasso .....
I have a feeling that is will be one of these locks...but that is my speculation.

Designing a knife around backlock or CBBL always bring some compromises.

True, but more so for the CBBL imho.

I think the main limit for the backlock is that a blade can´t be made as tall as with a liner-, comp- or framelock in a given handle.
If that is an issue in Shawns design I´d personally hope he´ll go with a good linerlock.

Yes, good observation. I kinda forgot about that aspect.
Still, this will be very interesting model for blade affis. I am not even sure if there is someone who is making CPM 15V as a production model. Not for me, these extremely high carbide volume steel are not really for me.

It is funny, and I think that we on this forum kinda forget about it, but you can cut cardboard and lot of other things will kinda dull knife, and a lot of people are using knives dull as heck to cut things. CPM 15V is a nice steel, but I really dont need this much of a edge retention in a knife.

Will this be the first Golden collaboration? I hope it starts a trend. Can't wait to see what BBB has come up with.
Not even close, look into the Starmate for example.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Yojimbo and P’kal plus probably others.

Yojimbo was one I wasn't sure of, since Michael works for Spyderco. Must have been a collaboration prior to his employment.

Did he already worked for Spyderco when Yojimbo was created? I doubt that...

A liner lock model would be cool.
Too many backlocks and compression locks at the moment...

Michael made a video about the history of the Yojimbo 2 and how it came to be.

Shawn's design is very nice. He said he preferred that it be made in Golden. I told him Golden was backed up. Shawn said he would wait as long as it takes. I've been watching production closely to see where we can squeeze it in.

Right? A collaboration between Shawn and Spyderco should already be enough to grab most people’s attention. You know it’s going to be thin behind the edge with a good heat treatment. Throw in 15v with Golden’s attention to detail and this is a no questions asked, day one purchase for me.

Yes that might be an issue, CBBL isn't exactly a "slim" mechanism, especially considering liner/comp lock options. If not CBBL, I hope for a compression lock over liner, but I guess that's just a personal opinion. I like operating the close/open function of a folder from the top. Either way, I'm still buying it lol.

I'd be content if they duct taped the blade to a stick. I just want the steel.

Shawn Houston said he wanted his design made in Golden, with his particular heat treat and he said it didn't matter how long it took before capacity was available. So it waits in queue.

As I said in another thread, I don’t expect to see BBB’s 15V collaboration this year. But, I sure have hopes for next year.
