What was your 1st Spyderco?

#1

Post by Red »

My first Spyderco was an Endura vg-10 that I still have and love to this day. I spent several years working on commercial fishing boats so a good knife was paramount and it did very well making me a Spydie fan for life and that was before I ever tried the Salt/H1!!

Didn't even know about the Roadie until I learned about it here from Doc Dan. Very cool little knife, stout!

I first encountered Spyderco knives in an REI catalog or in one of their stores in the late 80s or very early 90s, maybe '91. I remember it being a rescue model, maybe with orange handle (unless the orange came later).

My first Spyderco is a second-hand Santoku which i've used many times a day for ~15 years. I got my first Spyderco folders much more recently-- in late 2018. I joined here around then after having lurked for a while. I learned so much about steels, designs, materials, geometry, sharpening and more as a lurker. I find learning about sharpening and improving sharpening skills and materials to be very gratifying. Thanks to all who share knowledge and keep a great forum environment! :spyder:

Edited to add: My first Spydie folders were a Resilience and a SpydieChef, which i bought at the same time. Since then i have accumulated a few other excellent Spyderco knives, but try to not buy too many.

I didn’t have a first one, I have two three “firsts.” I bought these two Delicas and a Sharp Maker back in ‘93 or ‘94. The clip on the PE has long departed and was replaced with a metal one at the factory.

I see you were a fan of the SE from the start! What would that edge be called? PE/SE?

CE (Comboedge) ;)

And actually I was not the biggest fan of the SE part of the Delica (though I found it ok) back then - my love for SE started with the very shallow serrations of the ffg Endela SE... ;)
