Been there, done that, about 15 years ago. :) Delica 2 with full coverage engraving by British Master engraver Marcus Hunt.

Haven't carried or used it lately, but just in case anyone thinks it was always a safe queen...

I really like how that Delica turned out. You did a really good job.

The best part is that thing is a slicing beast. HAP-40 is amazing, I have it on a Pakkawood Dragonfly, a daily user, and gave HAP-40 in a Pakkawood Delica for Father's Day. It really is a great steel.

Now after seeking this, I need a Wharncliffe Delica!!!
It really is a slicing machine. You should give the wharny Delica a go! For my work uses (lots of cardboard, poly-wrap, and pallet straps), I firmly believe it's one of the best knives on market.

One of the greatest knife designs ever so any upgrades are always worthwhile. I'm interested to see the results.

I had a maker tell me I was wasting my time because I could have a whole custom knife made for cheaper than the cost of this project.

I replied with "Yea, but it wouldn't be a Delica."

It'll have a Damasteel blade here real soon. :)

I'm going to keep the original grind though. It's a slicing machine.

Fair enough. :)

Glad you found someone to make that Damasteel blade for you. What pattern did you go with?

You chose a great, very functional model to customise. My HAP40 Wharny Delica is one of my perennial favourites among my working knives.

Any plans for the HAP40 blade?

I went with the Vinland pattern. There is a pic a few posts up. :)

I actually do have some plans for the blade. I have a set of TeroTuff Navy scales set aside for the upcoming K390 Delica Wharncliffe. I also have a stock beater Delica here. I'm going to put the blue FRN scales (off of the K390 Delica) and put them on the beater Delica and then swap the HAP40 blade into it to make a nice blue FRN/HAP40 Delica Wharncliffe. :)

No idea what I'll do with the extra VG-10 drop point Delica blade.

Haha, totally! The lockbar, liners, washers, and spring will be the only things that are stock, lol. A few more parts and I can make another FRN Delica, lol.

New to Wharncliffe - been playing with a green salt 2 that is becoming my edc favorite. I'll be into multiples of the K390 when it becomes available. FRN works for me but it is fun to see how insane people can get...

You have good taste. :D

The standard FRN/HAP40 has been my all-time favorite work knife since it was released. It's the only knife I have a duplicate of in case I lose one, lol. I think I'm going to be facing a tough decision when those K390 wharnys are released!

I thought something similar, there is almost a full hap40 Delica to be reclaimed.

I had to go look that up, interesting. Wikipedia also mentioned “grandfather’s ax” in which both the head and handle have been replaced. I would contend that one is easy to solve; handles are replaced several times on a head over the course of its life; the piece that is “grandfather’s ax” is the head. Once it is replaced grandfather has a new ax. If you reassemble the old ax out of the spent parts, you have an old worn out ax. Call it vintage and sell it on eBay. Now by the act of grandfather owning a new ax, the new one is “grandfather’s ax.”

But I digress...

Nice one, I like that Vinland pattern.

Yeah, I agree, the Wharny Delica is a great tool for warehouse type work.

I’m looking forward to the Wharny K390 Delica too. I suppose I should get some custom scales ready for it.

That drop point Delica was a cool mod too.

Thanks! Yours looks fantastic too! Aren't Josh's clips great? Easily my favorite aftermarket Spyderco clip! If I would have known the finish matched the Flytanium scales so well out of the box, I probably wouldn't have had Josh take the time to put a custom finish on mine, lol!

Yea... The screws were a pain in the butt to source! There were lots available for one side, but not both. I ended up having to go through a guy in Australia who custom machines the screws and new sleeves for the Delica. I ended up paying nearly $100... For screws... Lol. These days it looks like they're a little more available with a guy in Cali selling multiple colors for about $20 - $25.

REK clips are very nice. Smoothest in and out of pocket of any clip I've used. Great for knives that dont work as well with the deep carry clips. I have one on my 20CV Smock as well. I suspect I will pick up another at some point.
