I never realized they were pinned construction, I guess I just assumed the back side had the screw heads. I do hope they figure out how to do these in screw construction without major tooling changes.

Yeah the older ones were pinned construction but Sal pretty much said they were going to try to do this one in screw construction>> that is if they do indeed decide to do this Sprint Run ( I hope, I hope). I think he even said that on this thread I'm pretty sure. A folder of this caliber should be screw construction. Because I plan on using this bad boy in both edge types if it comes to fruition.

i love my manix 2 lw, but i'm not buying another pinned knife ever unless it's much cheaper than anything spyderco offers. screw that.

That really blows me away that those two models are so close to each other in thickness. Now my Carbon Fiber Cricket is a bit thicker than any other Cricket model I've ever owned. I just never paid that much attention to the Cricket model because the ones I've owned were collector pieces and I ended up trading most of them.

I would have not guessed that to be the case. Actually Spyderco builds better quality small knives than anyone else I know of. So it makes sense that those Cricket models would have that rigid of construction.

Fantastic news. VG10 is fine by me - it’s great in both SE and PE.

I’m not really fussed about colours, but considering the SD angle, what about a blue jeans coloured G10?

That's one thing I've always thought was odd -- why the second run with G10 didn't move to screws vs pins, I've never been a fan of pinned knives, I think it's my OCD. ;)

i know this isn't a spyderco, but remember when i was saying dlc with burgundy scales and bronzed hardware and liners...? look how classy this looks and imagine burgundy scales and a much sweeter knife design.

Let me see if I can help JD out here.......

Massad Ayoob C60, 2020/21 version!

***Japanese built lock-back, same overall dimensions as the original?
***VG-10 hollow grind blade steel in both serrated and plain edge, non-coated!
***Burgundy G-10 scales.
***Screw together construction.
***Larger opening hole than original.
***Incorporate the same gold bug logo on the clip as the original.

EDIT:
***Slightly thicker handle / scales to fill the hand more.
***Newest style spoon clip......with gold bug logo! :D

***Boye Dent and change to tip-up / tip-down carry.....of course those options are completely up to Sal and his team?

Well, what do you think? JD, did I miss anything?

The only thing you left out that I would add would be slightly "Thicker Handle Scales". But other than that possible feature modification I think you're spot on.

Also if they have any newer type pocket clip that they eventually want to try out on newer models I wouldn't mind seeing them trying it out on a new C-60 Sprint Run. Other than those 2 considerations I think we're ready to present our desires to Mr. Glesser and see what he thinks :) He does seem to be sort of favorable to our suggestions so far.

I also want to give the man all the time that he feels he'll need. I'm sure this can't all be done in a microwave oven so to speak. But I can't help but be a little anxious to see a new C-60 Ayoob model. It's such a great model I don't ever want to see it die out completely.

Any word on the handle thickness? The P4LW is about 0.38 inches (taken from a YT review, I don't have calipers). I find this to be a good size. Slimmer than normal, but still comfortable in hand. I'd be interested to see what the Ayoob measures. Your images have me curious.

Sitting at my desk here at work, just read your post and reached into my desk drawer.......and of course MY calipers are gone! I'll find them and try to get you a measurement tonight.

I would bet that the 2002 orginal and 2011 Sprint Run are very close to each other in thickness. Now it won't be a game changer if Sal has to go with the original set up. Because even with a somewhat thin handle I still like it better than most of my other folders. But a thicker handle would be the cherry on top of the Sundae.

Again I wouldn't even mind if Spyderco were to try out any new pocketclip they might want to introduce as well.

Also whatever G-10 they use I hope it's at least as "grippy" as the G-10 they used on the 2011 Sprint Run of the C-60.

Before this thread loses steam I want to also talk about other "bells & whistles" that could enhance the C-60 Ayoob model. I've wondered if a lanyard made specifically for that model might be a good idea?

I'm also wondering if an embossed Spydie logo on the handle might add some collector appeal to it. I still want to keep Massad Ayoob's name on the blade as well.

Are there any other ideas and/or suggestions that you all can think of that would make this model super appealing?

I’m not seeing these as improvements. Enough people loved the original design to get a Sprint with G10 and the G10 model to get interest in this sprint. Too many changes makes it a different (but related) knife and will drive costs up, up, up. Burgundy G10, VG10, SE, screw construction and call it done.
Otherwise, if we are still dreaming: Thick contoured Titanium scales, Damasteel blade, screw construction, and a 15 year mortgage! :D :spyder:

Thank you!! this is what I want to hear. If there is something you all don't like with many of these suggestions and proposals then by all means tell us you don't like it. Because it's the consumer that's ultimately got to be happy. Actually your comment has made me go to my old adage " If It Isn't Broke Then Don't Try To Fix It".
I've thought about a Titanium handle for the C-60 and please understand I'm a big fan of Titanium handles over the years. But I'm wondering if that is a good fit for the C-60. When they went to G-10 in the 2011 Sprint Run I thought that was close to perfection for this model ( C-60).

Count me as a no for embossing on the handle. Keep it thin and plain. I don't think it needs much help in the appeal department.

An upgraded steel and handle material are the only areas I would use to increase the appeal.

Can you imagine the fallout from a Cru-Carta Ayoob?

I'd say no to the lanyard and embossing. I prefer simple knives. Since the overwhelming support is for SE, the only bell & whistle I want is PE.

That's why I put it up there so people could decide what they wanted or not wanted in this case. I want Spyderco to know exactly what it is we are asking for.

But I won't waver wanting it in PE & SE both. That's just got to happen. I'm starting to believe that more here on the Forum would want SE over PE. A Burgundy or Black handle would be just fine by me. The sooner this project gets off the ground I'll be extremely happy.
