Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
OK FOLKS!!!
So this poll is for the handle of THIS UKPK ONLY. I am not asking what your general preference for UKPK's is, but what you would prefer on the DAMASTEEL UKPK BLADE ONLY.
The choices are fairly self explanatory.
Obviously your first choice is important, but there is an option for a second choice too.
If there is no obvious clear winner, then I will re-poll for another three days the most popular two or three options.
PLEASE KEEP THIS THREAD FOR THIS SINGLE TOPIC ONLY.
THERE WILL BE A POLL LATER FOR THE PATTERN OF DAMASTEEL.

Ivory Micarta would get dirty soooo fast if actually carried in your pocket. Strictly a display model.

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
My first choice is any of the carbon fiber options. I would be 100% ok with any of them (I could even get on board with a carbon fiber/g10 sandwich as long as it used the texture on the Watu). I picked shred for now, but I'll likely just jump on board with whichever CF option is most popular towards the end of the poll.
My second choice is ivory Micarta... However, I would like to make sure that Micarta is an option without liners as I seem to remember that Spyderco has had some issues with Micarta and movement/humidity.
G10 is last on my list. I just really dislike the feeling of G10 (feels too hard, like stone in my hand) and typically replace the scales on any knife that uses G10.

That's a GREAT point. Light colored Micarta takes color from the oils/dirt on your hands/in your pockets FAST. This knife is definitely going to be a user for me (like all my knives). Trying to keep it looking good would be very difficult.

Screw it.
I would actually love a milled out handle, and by milled out I am talking like what the q and s had. G10, steel, titanium, I dont care.

If it is not blowing up costs, it's got to be Titanium for me. Since Sal ruled out steel (and so you haven't offered it in your poll).

Carbon fiber shred, I would buy at least 2!

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
Yep, good point. I deleted my 2nd vote on that basis.
I prefer cf to Ti nowadays, but I think it might be too busy with Damasteel.
I still think a contoured Ivory g10 would look the dog’s gonads.
Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
Ivory micarta or g10 would look great. Carbon fiber may make it look too busy with the damascus blade.
Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
That's fair. I think there are some definite pros and cons to both carbon fiber and ivory Micarta (and ivory G10 for that matter). I've been scouring the internet for pictures of Damasteel + carbon fiber and Damasteel + ivory Micarta and it's confirmed for me that either option would look incredible (at least to my eye). There is a knife by Buck that uses a Damasteel blade, ivory Micarta, and a black G10 liner/border and it looks absolutely gorgeous.
Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
I feel like we should determine if micarta is actually an option linerless. Otherwise imo having two ivory options subtracts votes from either.

1st choice: Titanium Stepped (not just plain Ti)
2nd choice: Shred carbon fiber
I'd definitely put Shred carbon ahead of plain ti.

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
If we do end up with an ivory or light handle, can we get the blade as dark as possible? Is that a thing with Damascus?
Juxtaposition and all that! :)

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
I had to vote for titanium. Why isn't steel an option?
Everyone's so concerned about cost and you put Ti as an option and not steel? Just curious, as Ti is much more expensive.

Ivory G10 or Micarta would be my choice but polished. Ergos are good enough for a secure grip on this slipit, so I think the polished look is more fitting for the Damasteel blade. Also, should be easier to maintain/clean and keeps cost down vs Ti or CF.

Sal said he worries steel would make the knife too heavy. At the same time he kind of mentioned Titanium and said he targets an MSRP of $150.
I'd take steel. But if Titanium (without fancy fluted patterns or so) isn't that much more expensive, I'll take Titanium in a heartbeat.

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS
I get the impression that titanium is going to be at the upper limit of the costs, but I wanted to put it in because if enough people were desperate for it, and it was a clear winner, then maybe we could try and work it out.
I thought those were in the minority, but I wanted to be democratic here, and let everyone who might be buying the knife have their say.

I agree. I think a contrast is better here.
