Its a new "Golden Age"
Even though I joined this forum in 2017 I have been a huge fan of Spyderco since the Centofante 4. It was my first Spyderco. Im not sure what year that was. Irregardless, I have seen many post about the "Golden Years" (1998-2003) of Spyderco. There is a lot of merit to those years, but I think we have entered another "Golden Age". Its a time when there are so many awesome and unique exclusives, sprints, collaborations, and production models being released. Manufacturing techniques, CQI, and metallurgy have brought production to a new level. What a great time to be a collector or user and be a part of Spyderco history.

Hi Wednesday,
I would say a lot of that is Eric. Also two of us Cut a wider arc in design, innovation and quality. We have a few totally new innovations in-the-works. FYI, Eric's 11 year old son, Kobe, is starting to sit in on some of our R & D meetings.

That's really sweet! Nice that they're keeping it in the family

How cool! What a legacy
Re: Its a new "Golden Age"
It feels awesome to watch what Spyderco is doing even just over the last several years. I haven't been around long enough to recognize any major shifts, but I can say I really enjoy being able to view and use the new products coming out, as well as look into the design and production history, and sometimes even grab a second hand oldie that really shows where the past has influenced the present.
I am always looking forward to seeing what direction the designs are taken with each passing reveal and revision.
That there may be another contributing generation of the Glesser's is awesome to think about.

Hi Sal,
How about a family picture of the three generations (Sal, Eric & Kobe) with their favorite Spyderco knife?

Next Spyderco byte idea. The knives Kobe gravitates to and his input on these R&D meetings. Materials, colors, blade styles he likes. Maybe some rough sketches of designs he's created we might see in the next 10-20 years? :D
Probably only a matter of time until we get a glimpse of his makers mark on something.

Re: Its a new "Golden Age"
It reminds me of a question that I have: what do y’all do to teach kids proper knife handling? A lot of Spyderco features fly in the face of knife safety as taught to me in my youth. Do you start them on an old-school slipjoint so they have to learn the old rules? Give them a Spyderco and tell them to always use both hands? Let them use a Spyderco as intended, and warn them that not all knives can be used that way?
Re: Its a new "Golden Age"
I remember when S90v was THE unicorn steel years ago. It wasn't in any production and very, very rarely in sprints. Now I own a s90v Delica of all things that I got for $92.00 off ebay. Pretty incredible.

Cheers to Spyderco. I've only been in the knife game a handful of years now, but i don't think I would have fallen in love with this hobby if Spyderco didn't exist.

Yes, I definitely think that we’re in a Golden Age of Spydies right now.
The prolific use of different steels with benchmark production heat treats, the massive variety of new models and collaborations; not to mention the engagement and responsiveness to the end-line users is unmatched in the industry IMHO.
