Found a way to fund this gem blade, and a dealer in Germany (zero risk for me) that sells it at a price below my ultimate pain threshold.

Next purchase not before fall......

It has ended up costing more than hoped, but then world events have changed since I started this thread.

I guess if you dont like the price, then dont buy it.

From you were a bit gutted about this a few posts above to a servile attitude

LOL, actually Sal sent you a free Damasteel Urban

GSG9 - I think you are being a bit rude here, and prefixing "not trying to be confrontational", or adding a smiley face does not mitigate that.

The implication being that Sal is corrupt, and I am easily bought.

Are you inferring we are ALL just servile dogs?

Initially I was disappointed to see that the UKPK was shelved, but gradually I came around to the idea. I still prefer the UKPK shape, and probably always will. My opinion changed before Sal sent me the knife, but when it arrived yesterday, I actually was surprised at how lovely it was.

It's a shame that you are annoyed about the cost, but to some extent it seems out of anyone's hands. With that being said, luxury goods exist; some people are willing/able to put their funds to them, others not. Buy it or don't, either way is fine.

I am not a mod of this or any other forum, and as far as I am aware being rude to me is not breaking any rules. You are free to choose your words, as I am free to choose my feelings and response. It just sticks out like a sore thumb on a forum like this.

I would rather that sort of negativity wasn't stagnating on the thread I started here.

David is right G. Nothing wrong with being disappointed the knife is expensive, but there's no call to be rude to others.

So what is your point if I may politely ask? A Damasteel knife from a US company sold in the UK costs more than you and others would like it to. The knife as is can't be made and sold cheaper, is your point it should not be made at all then? Other than lamenting that it's price puts it out of reach for a lot people in the UK what would you have done differently? Have Spyderco sell it at a loss? I'm trying to understand.

And even here in the US $100 is a luxury purchase for most people when it comes to knives. Yes this knife will cost us less than it will people in the UK. And yes I get it, a UK friendly design that is more affordable in 'the land of machine guns', but all designs are cheaper here. What were you expecting?

There have been many knives I've wanted that were out of my price range. There have been a few I wanted bad enough I paid upwards of $700 for. Should people who really want a Damasteel Urban or UKPK and are willing to pay the price, be denied the opportunity because it's unaffordable to many? Should they not be excited for a knife they thought they may never have the opportunity to buy at any price? Remember this is only the second Damasteel knife Spyderco has ever made.

Sorry David,

Almost every knife we are making in Golden is back-ordered. There are many new models that are not moving forward for that reason. I, myself have a number of new models that are sitting, much to my own disappointment.

We are doing everything we can to alleviate the situation. The expansion is quite expensive and Gail and I have signed for the funding. I must admit that these are pretty scary times for such a large gamble.

Your kind understanding and patience is appreciated.

Thanks Sal. Sometimes we forget who's taking the giant risks to expand a business in 21C USA.

Hi David,

We're increasing production some every month, but demand is also increasing. Most of the new projects are being held back until the expansion is complete some time next year.
