Where can I get Mineral Oil? I've heard that its good for your knives if you plan to cut food with them. Also,I have a Norelco razor and it recommends Mineral Oil for cleaning.
I've checked my local Wal-Mart and a grocery store and nobody knows what Mineral Oil is...
Any help would be great.

head over to the local drug store, and look under the laxitives...
I use mineral oil all the time on my knives. it doesn't spoil like veggie or canola oil, and is cheap.

I didn't know it was either until someone else requested a cheaper place to buy some, and wa told. I had to go look for myself.

I use Militec or even motor oil. Never worried about its potential toxicity because the knife is wiped after oiling. Besides, what harm can do a drop of M20-W40 oil in your diet? <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

A lot of harm, actually. Mineral oil causes cancer when ingested. Just Google for "mineral oil cancer".
Just use Ballistol to wipe and conserve your blades .. great stuff and not expensive. Completely free of mineral oils. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

the list of carcinogenic things out there is too large to avoid... The small amount I get from the food that has contact with my blade(not to mention the pesticides used while it's growing, and anything in the water they get sprayed with, and anything they contact during shipping)... not to worry about.

Excuse me, but this reaction ("denial strategy"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> is stupid. You will probably reconsider when you are lying in hospital with colon cancer (one of the cancer types promoted by mineral oil).
I will try to avoid all chemicals that are known to cause cancer if at all possible. I mean, we mustn't make it *easier* for Death to get us, must we? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I'm pretty much guaranteed to get cancer, thanks to genetics...
my grandmother that passed away in sept 97 lost a 5yr battle starting with breast(then skin, bone, and finally blood)... my grandfather on that side(now 90) has had prostate, and still has a couple spots of skin... 2 of my aunts on this side also had breast, my sister had a spot removed from her upper vagina.
other side my grandmother just got cleared for colon cancer(rad treatments were finished with in may), my grandfather had prostate.
all 4 grandparents, 3 surviving... 2 aunts, and a sister(2.5yrs older)... lucky me and genetics.
I highly doubt that carcinogens in daily life will have any added chance. Doesn't mean I go out of my way to find them, I just don't make any special efforts to avoid them.

Trace elements of mineral oil are found in many natural foods and in human, mouse, pig, rabbit, and rat tissue with no health related issues.
No sense being anal about such a crappy subject but here is some info derived from my current Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy and Current Pediatric Diagnosis and Treatment.
Mineral oil is a wetting agent or detergent laxative. Its pharmacological use is to soften fecal matter and render stools easier to pass. It has the drawback of decreasing absorption of fat-soluble vitamins so this must be considered when prescribing. It acts slowly and is useful after MI or anorectal surgery or when prolonged bed rest is required. In pediatric constipation, a regime of multivitamins (2/day) between doses of light mineral oil, 15 – 30 mL po bid for 4 to 6 mo (or more if needed to maintain daily stool) is a standard procedure detailed by the Merck Manual. The Current Pediatric Diagnosis and Treatment manual lists standard the pediatric dose of mineral oil (liquid paraffin, liquid petrolatum) as 0.5 mL/kg orally. Mineral oil is also found in over the counter pharmaceuticals like Milk of Magnesia – Oil Emulsion (flavored and non-flavored varieties), Fleet Mineral Oil Enemas, and a host of topical cremes and emollients.
It does us all well to not overindulge in almost anything but no light mineral oil or even white mineral oil MSDS I’ve encountered lists an exposure limit, an LD50, or even a warning on carcinogenic risk. Of course, as Woody Allen discovered about health food in Sleeper you are free to wag an "I told you so finger" 50 plus years down the road if all this is found to false......
