I'm honestly thinking about deleting the clip altogether. If the detent on the next one is as strong as this one, I will.

I think the holes are part of the character of the knife. But I can see how the clip situation would be annoying.

Just a quick update.
I found a woodworker who is interested in making scales over on BF.
He is making me a set of Watu scales. He spent the time to import them into CAD as well. I think this means that the next set will be much easier to make - so if anyone is interested... I will add that he has been awesome to work with. Very knowledgeable and very accommodating.
And - I think it should be pretty easy to delete the holes and keep the scales solid throughout if that is your preference.

I saw a Chokwe with aftermarket wood scales - absolutely gorgeous!

So, I did indeed contact the maker Foofie referred us to above - Chris from Trifect Custom Shop - to make me a set of custom Watu scales as well, and boy I’m sure glad I did! Chris just finished these up and shipped them to me today, and here’s the pic of them he shared on his IG page:



I went with a nicely-figured fiddleback Koa as my wood of choice since I have several other custom Spydercos with that kind of wood scales. I’ll certainly take some more pics myself when they arrive to me and I install them, and hopefully Foofie can share a pic of his finished product (I certainly didn’t want to steal his thunder!). Those scales look fantastic. I'm not sure I want to find out more because this could get expensive.

I'm actually in Morro Bay (where that scale maker is located) right now. I'm considering trying to find him. The town's not that big...

no thunder stolen - that fiddleback Koa is absolutely beautiful.

Unfortunately, my favorite knives are all at home. Most of them aren't EDC legal in several jurisdictions between here and there.

Those are awesome looking scales, both of them. Maybe it's just me, but I really think that the ethnic design of the Watu really stands out with wooden scales.

Maybe a pakkawood sprint/exclusive in the future?

I agree totally. The wooden scales accentuate the *apparent* simplicity of the handle design.

ooooh, those are going to have some nice exotic burled patterns!

no disrespect to whoever it was that invented carbon fibre, but wooden scales transform this knife from a "What?!" to an "Oooh!"
