I wish I could have taken these in natural light, but it's been downpouring here all day today. As you can see, depending on the angle you look at the scales, the appearance really tends to vary. But, like I said...I think I like that unique trait, it's like a hologram.
These are beautiful. Different, perhaps? but beautiful.
One of my favorite traits of Koa is the chatoyance - the hologram like effect in different light.

Yeah man! That's awesome, I am a wood fanatic and the more unique the better. Glad you decided to hang on to them!

Both of those look great! ...and yes when I take pics of mine I move around to get the light to best show them off
Maybe Knifecenter will order an exclusive with the pakkawood.
After all the beautiful koa and walnut, pakkawood would be such a letdown
Seriously though - not a bad idea. Wood, without any of the durability concerns. I will add that I have been carrying mine almost every day, and no concerns with durability either way.
Have you dropped yours yet? I have a few small 'character' bites around the edge of mine.
Thankfully, no I haven't dropped it. I have dropped g10 and frn with scuffs and bites. I guess with wood, you could see some splitting? Or a chunk might break free by a screw hole close to the edge?

Yeah, the pakkawood isn't great but for a factory "wood " option it's not bad. I don't love the Watu enough to buy one and customize it but I would be interested in an alternative to the lam. cf in that pattern.
Just received mine and I am absolutely happy. I went with the gloss finish and I am so happy I did. I can not wait to put these scales on this weekend. Thank you very much for your talent and fine work.
