3 Classics You Want To See As SPRINT RUNS

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

As most of you know I'm still a very big fan of many of Spyderco's older models. Still own and use some of them too. I'm also still on record as saying that their Golden era was a time when virtually everything we see today was spawned from many models from what I affectionately call The GOLDEN Era Of SPYDERS ( 1998-2004).

It was in that time slot that most of my very favorite old school Spyders emerged. Now all of us have been intrigue with many of the Sprint Runs we have seem come to pass in the past 10 years or so. There are so many old school models I would love to see return with newer/better handle materials and newer/better blade steels.

So for all of you who are thinking on the same lines as I am let's all list 3 past Spyderco models you would like to see resurrected in an upcoming Sprint Run. Also you might add which handle material you would prefer and which blade steel you think would bring that model into the year 2020.

My three are
(1) C-60 Ayoob in K390 or M390 with a Carbon Fiber or G-10 handle

(2) Fixed blade TEMPERANCE 1 in ( SE & PE) in the Salt Series with LC200N

(3) JD Smith in SE & PE with 4V with either a Carbon Fiber or original Micarta handle. ( G-10 would work too)

1. Rookie in K390 and navy blue G10

2. Leafstorm in M4 and glow in the dark G10

3. Mouse in 20CV and Titanium

great picks "VooDooChild"!! If I couldn't have the 3 I picked I could easily go for the 3 you picked. Excellent. Yeah I would love a Sprint Run of the Caspian Salt in LC200N. That model never got the fanfare that it richly deserved.

I've said many times over the years that the ROOKIE model is probably the perfect EDC for a non-knife person who wants just a basic, dependable small folder. Surprised that the Rookie didn't become a permanent fixture.

Interesting picks. But don't you guys have any picks for handle materials and newer/better blade steels?

But on the other hand if you like what they originally had then that's OK too. Because my old AUS-8, full SE Catcherman is so nice I truly wouldn't change anything on that model.

I completely agree about the Caspian Salt in LC200N. Coincidentally, I was looking for a vintage Caspian on Ebay yesterday but no dice. My other two would be:

1) Baby Goddard
2) Kukhri

I would like to see:

Rookie in any modern steel, preferably with a pivot-end bolster and micarta or wood.
Jess Horn, same as above.
I have no real 3rd, but would not discourage an Ayoob.

Edited to add: Maybe now is the time for all of these to return using SPY27?

I'd really love a g10 Rookie! Also a large Lum Chinese and either a Calypso or a Wayne Goddard.

And it's not really a "classic" model, so I guess it wouldn't fit on this list, but man I want a new version of the Southfork!

Seeing how my #1 grail isn't gonna see the light of day as a sprint, any of the following will suffice :p

- Kiwi 2
- Kris
- Calypso

I just knew in my gut that the KRIS model was going to come up. So what blade steel would you like a Sprint Run KRIS model in? I think that XHP would be a good pick or M390. Of all recurves it seems like the KRIS should be a Sprint Run.

For the Baby Goddard I'd like it to have the Micarta handle. Otherwise I'll take whatever handle material or steel I can get for all 3
