Thanks for this thread. A Caribbean is on the radar in the very near future. I've decided that it will be SE (just appease Vivi, David, Gernot --- no I'm kidding just makes the most sense to me) but am having a tough time deciding on the sheepsfoot or leaf.

I threw a Lynch 'Long' clip on my old one. The longer one contacts the same point as the og clip, which is important on the Caribbean. Also its a big knife, and the longer one just looks better...
The longer MXG clip fits perfectly as well. That's what I have been running on my Caribbean without any issues. I believe another member posted some pics a while back and that's where I got the idea.

Since there are many versions of MXG clips, which one exactly? For which Spydie? I believe the Caribbean is not mentioned in their ads.
The standard 3 screw long clip that fits the PM2 and many of the FRN models is the one I purchased and has been working well.

Thanks. Could you drop a picture...?

I took a couple pics but not sure how to attach them bc the files are too large. Sorry, I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to attaching photos and vids.

This is unfortunately an issue if you're using a cell phone with a decent camera, they'll all take pics that end up too big. You may be able to drop the resolution down on your camera or even find an app that can do it for you. There are lots of free pic hosting options too, many people like Imgur.com and they also have an app.

I take the pic far back on my phone. Then edit/size them down on my phone until they fit. Its not a great method but it works.

Thanks for the advice/help guys. I tried editing the photo and altering the camera on my phone to no avail. The other options seem like a lot of work. Sorry to archangel about that.

If you want the ability to initiate a cut by piercing the item with the tip, get the leaf. Leaf is also better for cleaning small things, like de-fuzzing a screw hole in wood.

Thank you LB- I really wish I was more computer literate 🤷‍♂️…I was trying vivi’s method before posting on photo contest but now I’m gonna do what you suggested 👊

How did you do the scales? I've thought about that quite a bit but wasn't sure how I'd do it and be satisfied with the results. Seems like a router setup would be best to prevent going too deep and to keep the new grooves a consistent thickness and depth.

Hi David-
It was a lot of trial and error and “LUCK”… also not perfect by any means…I went too deep in several spots…but the lateral grip is what I was looking for(vertical was already good)…believe it or not I used a dremel and a small diamond file after marking out pattern w/a pencil…actually started out w/bit attached but not turned on just to see how it felt…I actually did quite a lot that way…I have purty strong hands from being in the tree srvc bus. for 30+years and could relate w/what arthritis must feel like 😢…when I got some confidence built up I turned on dremel…router woulda been better or just mill them out…I thought about calling Spencer C.(@karbadize) cause he had made some frag scales for my chef and just a great guy,but he has to have a cad model for each specific knife…I’ll try and post some more pics, but I’m just now getting the hang of this postimages thing✌️

I don’t own a Caribbean. I think I was put off by the yellow and black pattern. Never warmed to it (no disrespect to the designer).
In my view, a great mod is when it makes the original look like it was meant to be that way.
In my humble opinion, you nailed it. Well done SaltyCarribbeanDfly !

I like that scale mod a lot. It looks like it improves the grip, and amazingly, I think it’s prettier than the factory pattern. I think the curvy cuts are what seal the deal aesthetically. Well done!
