With a Nirvana clip installed:

If someone wants to install a Lynch clip, it will work but the top end of the clip will extend past the end of the knife a fair bit, and that was a deal-breaker for me. I actually picked up a very nice REK clip and am having trouble mounting that as well since the Swayback scales are quite contoured and the clip back is obviously flat. I’m hoping to add some reverse matched contouring to the underside of the clip so it sits correctly on the scale (and can be properly screwed in). Cheers, Radioactive
That looks great! I personally dig the contrast of the stock clip to the scales. But yours looks like it came that way! If only they made a clip with a matching mirrored stone wash. Do they?

Hmm that’s too bad about the Lynch deep carry clip extending past the end of the knife - I was planning on putting one of those on it but now I’m not sure! Mine shipped today so I should have it in a few days. I do like the looks of that titanium hourglass clip on the Swayback, I might end up ordering one.

OK, there seems to be some confusion about the clip I put on my Swayback, it IS a stock Spyderco clip off the Nirvana (model C199). It is definitely steel and not titanium (a magnet sticks to it quite nicely), and the reason it matches the Swayback so well is it came out of the same Taichung factory!

The Nirvana and Swayback both have nearly identical stonewashed finishes on their scales. In the case of the Nirvana, they wisely chose a matching clip finish; for the Swayback, they went the shiny route ;)

Swayback is dropping like it's HOT!
Pre-order just shipped and I can't wait to get it in hand.

A bit more confident in a pre-order now...

Mine shipped too. Looking forward to it. Out of town right now but it should be waiting for me when I get home

Not sure if it was me that you’re referring to causing confusion. I get that it is an genuine Spyderco clip, but I meant stock as in what came on it. I was just saying I prefer the contrast the shiny one gives. Apologies for any confusion I may have caused.

Darn, they had some in stock at SFO. I get the OpFocus discount so I was super excited. But they sold out while I was transferring the money for it :( hopefully they get more in stock soon. That’s the one big downside of OpFocus - SFO is almost always out of stock of high-demand items.

Looks way better.

I wonder if the Caribbean's Ti clip would fit...

Ah I thought the Nirvana clip was Ti like the Caribbean clip but obviously not (and the Caribbean clip has a lanyard hole in it, unlike the Nirvana clip).

I never quite understood the purpose of a swayback, is it to make edge up more comfortable?

Peeling fruit.

That's why I have always loved them, haha.

Have been carrying mine since I got it Monday. Still can’t get over the phenomenal action of this knife. It’s just soooo smooth, yet locks up so tight and secure.
And during some admiration/fondle time just now, I noticed that there are TWO internal stop pins that are opposite and offset from each other. I’m assuming one for open, and one for closed. Does anyone know if this done on any other models?

I’m not sure if Spyderco has done that before or not. It’s definitely interesting though! Here’s a video I saw a few days ago that has a Swayback disassembled: https://youtu.be/azRdVSwso60

Whoa! There is more going on than I realized! How on earth did this come in at such a low street price? Also thank you for posting that. Long one, but I really liked their banter.

I read somewhere it was originally designed (the traditional pattern) after the US Civil War for the many ex-soldiers who had only one arm after amputations. It makes it easy to cut towards your thumb. I'm not old enough to confirm that. ;)

Jonathan McNees has these for sale on his website along with the option for anodizing - Blue, Bronze, or Purple.

Personally, I'd be all over one in Bronze if the Cu PM2 wasn't about to drop.

Can anyone tell me when the Swayback prototype was originally discussed by Marcin Slysz?
