There is one Spyderco model that I immediately fell in love with when I first got it. I'm speaking of the Stainless RESCUE model. It's tenure was short because you can only find it listed in the small 1999 insert catalogs.

The Stainless RESCUE came out of the ATS-55 era ( late 90s, early 2000s) and was offered for only a year or two. I'm carrying one today. The Stainless RESCUE is built like an Abram's Tank. I would love to see a Sprint Run of this model with XHP bladesteel..

I've used this STAINLESS RESCUE model so many times over the years. To me it's the very best of all the Spyderco "sheepsfoot" bladed models. But sad to say there are very few avid fans of Spyderco that even know of this model at all. There were others during that ATS-55 era that could qualify as "Sleepers">> But the Stainless handled RESCUE is one I hope to keep for many years to come.

The C51G Rookie is quite possibly the most underrated sleeper knife. I'd love to see a refreshed version of it, not just a sprint.
Used to be JR in CT with a much earlier join date. :spyder: Native in 440v was my gateway Spyderco! :spyder: Friends call me Jim. As do my enemies.

Wow that didn't take long :D My previous post prior to this one sang the praises of a model out of the ATS-55 era. The ROOKIE model you just mentioned is also out of the ATS-55 era as well.

I've said for years that the ROOKIE model may be one of the best for most non-knife people. It's probably about as perfect of an EDC folder as you'll find. You might even want to pull up a thread I did on the ATS-55 era a couple of years ago.

This is a great thread by the way

I guess it's not out yet but I don't see many people talking about the SpyOpera. I'm really interested to see how that one turns out.
I require more lc200n and thinner grinds

Current collection: Watu (almost back from mods!), Spydiechef, Native G10 salt, Waterway, K390 Ladybug, Caribbean

Echoing some of the sentiments above.. the Stretch (more so the 1 because I find it to be more comfortable), and Brouwer are GREAT knives that I feel don't always get the attention they deserve.

Also.. I don't think it's been mentioned here yet.. the Lil' Temp 3 is one of my favorites that I think is highly underrated.

..well, that escalated quickly..

Des Horn.

Super sleek, great pointy tip for precise work, excellent production quality.

I never hear anyone talk about them though.

Brouwer. I’m about to order a replacement for the one I lost. Glad they repositioned the clip.

I saw that after I hit submit. Serendipity! :D Rookie would make a fantastic base for a variety of sprints based not just on steel choice, but on handle material. A bolstered Rookie would be joy.

Thanks for mentioning the cqi, I missed it somehow. I'm going to have to reconsider this model now, the original clip placement was terrible.

I dont even have one, but I do plan on getting one eventually. The Pattada looks great.

Of the ones I have I would say the Ulize and the Lil Tenperance 3.

Here is a weird question. Is the k390 pm2 considered underrated/ future sleeper?

I would look to some of the stainless models that have been in production the longest such as the SS police. There are many models of Spydercos purchased and kept in production that are not really high on the radar screen.

I think in the grand scheme of things, its gonna be overshadowed by the 10V model.

Mosf of my favorite underrated knives aren't Spydercos, but as far as underrated spydercos id say the hungarian, the vallotton and the Dodo. Sure, the dodo has fans but ive seen very few that show any use, and like all other spyderco models, you don't know how great it is until you use it.

The clip position for tip up carry was adjusted so the knife sits lower in pocket.

Maybe I don't understand - is a sleeper something which is underrated?

To me, a sleeper is an average-looking car hiding performance parts under the hood.

So for me, my favorite sleeper is the Dragonfly - small knife, big performance.

The UK Pen Knife.

I think a lot of people overlook it because it's a slip joint, but it's been able to tackle every job I've thrown at it and then some. Decent steel, thin blade stock, great ergonomics, deep carry wire-clip, useful size, amazing price. The strong half-stop also gives me more confidence than I would normally have with a slip-joint.

Could change with the Caly 3.5 LW? I have high hopes for it!
Yeah the Caly 3.5 LW should be a great knife, combined with Taichung quality and consistency. :)

As well as the Junction, the Bradley Bowie seems to be quite underrated for such a great modern version of a canonical fixed blade style.

I agree with your definition of a sleeper, as well as your choice in knife  Dragonfly can definitely handle more than it looks like it can.
