“Rex” branding is used by Crucible on all of their high speed steels. It’s almost like asking which is better between CPM and Maxamet. https://www.crucible.com/eselector/prod ... title.html

For those that have reprofiled the edges on their Maxamet or REX 45 blades, how thin have you been able to make the edge (without chipping or rolling during subsequent use)?

I am thinking less about the apex (which I cannot measure) and more about the grind angle and thickness behind the edge (which I can measure).
I'm not sure, because I freehand on benchstones to thin out the edge area, but I'd estimate I've taken my Maxamet Para 3 to somewhere like 12-13 dps. I estimate this because if I put it on the Sharpmaker at 15dps, the rods only leave a tiny edge contact area. But I generally run it with a 20dps microbevel for durability.

I was going to post similar. I suspect if people started referring to M4 as "Rex M4" it would see a resurgence in popularity.

Isn't Rex M4 already a thing? That's what crucible calls their PM M4, isn't it?

Edit: I just looked at Larrin's link, and yes.

But further, we can get all the super trendy names in one steel if we can just get CPM REX T15 (HS). ;)
