The left was factory edge, the right my freehand sharpening. Visually and functionally I had thought I did a pretty good job but the goniometer doesn't lie. I'm biased to the show side edge and tend to set the microbevel lower than effective. Good news is, once I got an effective feedback tool my skill has improved immensely. I think it might be impossible to get than nice tight parenthetical shaped laser deflection without using a belt or wheel - or maybe I'm still fighting a microscopic foil edge.

If I happen to be feeling onery, I ask about the tungsten content on the lockbar alloy. That usually leaves them looking like a large mouth bass.
