Kapara exclusive or sprint

#1

Post by GH9000 »

Wondering if the knife was popular enough for anyone wanting an exclusive or sprint with different steel and handle material. Just putting it out there for dealers or possibly Spyderco to see if it has enough interest. The smock got an exclusive. I picked one up and I like it a lot. Maybe the kapara could have the same treatment.

I would like one. Maybe xhp and micarta or smooth G10. Anyone?

In my view, the Kapara is one of those knives that just cries out for something like S90V, something carbidey and very corrosion resistant.

There are a lot of combos that would appeal to me, but I think a very stainless steel like m390 or lc200n with a grippy g10 or micarta - like others suggested in another thread today - would do really well.

i love lc200n and think it would be great on this knife, but it would have to be a less classy version. lc200n is a softer steel and takes scratches a little too easily to stay looking nice. i scuffed my native salt up just washing it in the sink along with the dishes after using it to cut food. i was surprised to see that and a little disappointed, but it’s a real beater knife, so it doesn’t matter. it doesn’t scratch as readily as h1, but it will scratch.

anyway, i’d still take a less fancy kapara in lc200n or something like s90v. i’ve never tried s90v, but from what i’ve read, it would probably be a good fit here.

I'd be devastated to see a micarta Kapara cos I've only just purchased an original in carbon fiber. I don't need two of (despite the Kapara being one of my all time favourite folders) but I know I'd be thinking obsessively about the upgrade until I smashed my piggy bank and counted the coppers.

Right after making this thread I just seen the other thread. 20cv or s90v would be cool though. Smooth black G10 would be great as well. I like the smoothness although I might be in the minority on that.

You’d be upset to buy 2 of the same knife, even if they were different? You need a paradigm shift! :D

It’s funny how different people can be. If I like a knife I buy multiples every time. Knives I really like, I buy a bunch of. Knives I REALLY like, I buy as many as I can. Like 7 of the jade/M4 Paramilitary 2. People accused me of being a flipper, but 3 years later I still own all 7.

I like having backups. And then backups to my backups. And maybe one to give away. And one for each of my kids.

Just think of it as a backup! Haha

I think s110v might be a better fit. Slightly better edge retention than s90v, plus enhanced stain resistance. Edge is a little chippier, but in this platform I think I'd take that trade off.

- Micarta!
- And even more so: Kapara LW in FRN (or FRCP? translucent?); give it a NON deep carry clip and a comp. lock tab that is a bit better accessible...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

VERY interested in something like this. Really want to add this type of "foldable kitchen knife" to my collection. But I don't like the carbon fiber on the regular Kapara, and don't want to pay premium price for something that's not right for me.

Sprint run with Micarta or G10 would be great, or maybe even a stabilized wood handle. S30v is fine for steel if it could keep cost down, but LC200n or something else would be great too.

Tried the SpydieChef but those slab scales were not great for any prolonged use so returned it.
On deck: FRN Chaparral

Moved on: Techno 2, SpydieChef

Excited to get: UKPK Heinnie Haynes edition, Lil'Kapara (bring it on! :D )

Oh I don't have a real problem with having two Kaparas - it's just they ain't cheap! (Though they feel quite reasonably priced, compared to some FRN knives where I'm not so sure, the Kapara is the priciest knife I ever bought!)

LC200N...

Other than that, I like it the way it is.

How about this?

Give it full LC200N construction and change the back spacer to yellow. Leave everything else alone.

Nice idea with the yellow backspacer. That little bit of colour means a lot on the Kapara!

It'd have to be a different scale material, and not so smooth, to get me to bite. If someone loves the original scales but wants the "upgraded" blade, they can always swap the new blade into their old handle, then sell off the old blade/new scales frankenkapara to someone that likes s30v but wants different scales.
