Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
Colour me hopeful for a return of both the blue scales and the longer handle:blade ratio/pointy profile like the original. The Smurf killer may not be a better knife than the Yo2, but it's a real looker.

Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
I get that the Yojimbo is a purpose driven self defense knife but I would like to see a dual purpose or Duojimbo for general purposes and self defense. I carried a spyderco civilian for a long time and it never got used thankfully but carrying two knives is just not practical sometimes. I would want to see a dual grind Yojimbo for more versatility and tip strength.
FFG but a stronger more obtuse grind up front with a swedge for piercing/slicing ease and a thinner grind in the back where there is more height of the blade for strength. That and LC200N for being carried close to the body without corrosion issues.

Did it have a choil or was it a 3 finger knife?.. Or did it keep enough length for a 4 finger grip?

Yojimbo means bodyguard in Japanese
Yoji means infant, child or toddler in Japanese
soooooo Yojimbo Yoji or just Yoji is more contextualy a better name?
Thoughts Mr. Janich?

Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
I am so excited about this. I randomly google "Spyderco Yojimbo1" from time to time hoping to find someone selling the unicorn I stupidly sold (several times), the mighty original Yojimbo. I always come up a day late when they do pop up. Its all I want is another original Yojimbo in pocket to use and (not) abuse on a daily basis. I had the Yojimbo 2, but its just a tad aggressive for most people and I live in New York City where knives aren't the most smiled on of pocket tools. So I forfeited that and just weep at night hoping to find another Yojimbo1 (if anyone has a lead on one please let me know), but then my random google brought me here today! Great community, and an even better thread! The idea of a new iteration with smaller stock has me super excited.
Sorry for the super long first post. Just excited to be here and to hear the news about a potential new Yojimbo!

I don't speak Japanese, so I'm not familiar with the nuances of the language's grammar. I have studied Mandarin and still speak pretty decent Vietnamese, however, so I know how important it is (at least to me) to get that aspect of a name right. From my study of the Japanese martial arts, I know enough to know that such details are heavily nuanced and that the concepts of large/small, major/minor have very specific linguistic expressions.
Personally, I have never been a big fan of the "Lil'" prefix used in many Spyderco names (i.e. Lil' Native). For scaling the same basic design, I like the way the gun industry uses the categories of "compact" and "micro." For that reason, "MicroJimbo" is my personal preference.
Great suggestion, though... Thank you for your interest!
Stay safe,
Mike
Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
I liked the Yojimbo name. I thought the name Yojumbo was a brilliant portmanteau. I felt the miniaturized version deserved an equally clever name so I went searching Japanese words for something that would roll off the tongue in keeping with the spirit of the theme. “Lil”
is a gen Z rap thing and would not be in the same theme, I agree. No one needs to tell you that the knife is a good knife but I can’t help but think that a variant of the blade design would be oh so cool to have a double angle full flat grind design so it could be thicker on the tip and thinner in the back so it could have not only self-defense but some utility. Also I thought a reverse Tanto tip to have two sharp edges would add some benefit. Stay sharp!

Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
So let me clarify- can we get a release of the Jandelicas that were sold at one time via Kahr? They can be produced with no tie to Kahr I presume since they were on Stay Safe at one time priorBuddafucco wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 10:23 amtwinboysdad wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 7:49 amHow about a rerelease of the Kahr Delicas?Michael Janich wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 6:47 amHey, guacorilla:

Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
Hey, twinboysdad:
Sadly, the Kahr Delicas were not a good fit for Kahr from a business standpoint. The gun industry and the knife industry operate on very different profit margins, so mixing the two is difficult. Dealers and distributors are conditioned to one price structure and products that don't fit it well tend to suffer.
Even when the Kahr Delicas were available, I was still grinding a few custom ones for Stay Safe Media to help support that business. Stay Safe is now closed, but my JanDelicas and Janduras are available from 5x5 Combat Solutions.
As for an "official" resurrection of snubby Delicas like those we made for Kahr, that's above my pay grade...
Stay safe,
Mike
