i just use a cheap reel oil that has a needle applicator on the pivots and i use frog lube paste to lightly coat the blade of anything that might rust. frog lube is food safe, so it's good to go for anything. it has a minty smell. i'm in hawaii, so corrosion is something i have to worry about and the frog lube has worked well on the few d2 blades i occasionally carry. just fyi, it did seem to darken the blade very slightly, but not as much as a patina would and i've had no rust.

I've used a super thin coat of mineral oil on all of my tool steels & some of my stainless steels for a long time and it's never given me any reason to use anything else, it doesn't go bad, it's food safe, it's inexpensive, easy to find, and works like a champ.
