Rare 1990 BLACK SEAL.

#1

Post by sid137 »

My rare All-Black (Navy) Seal Spydie in G-2 from 1990 has landed...
(The sickest Spyderco I’ve ever owned.)
Took 5 weeks from a seller in Japan who deals in rare/vintage Spydies.
Before Murdered-out was a thing.
4-in blade. Dwarfs my Meerkat, also pictured.
SekiCity Police DNA (the all-black matte finish w/serrations makes it a Seal).

An amazing looking knife my friend, and at a decent price too! Great find that would compliment any Spyderco Collection. I wish I could find stuff like that. :D

There's currently one of these offered on a Dutch auction platform for 1000 Euro.
(And i have nothing to do with it)

It’s like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

That is one of the most badass Spydercos ever. I have an idea. Titanium handle and LC200N blade all with a modern black coating. That would be the sickest Spyderco ever.

Is that a seconds notch on the blade? Maybe one that didn't pass QC but was given new purpose in life.

That is awesome! Is that TiCN or DLC, or something else entirely?

Great question. Possibly, but it’s fully coated. I’d have to ask Sal or Viintage experts if they were doing that practice back in 89/90.

Not sure. But it’s extremely matte and smoothly applied, with a 1 or 2 tang contact points worn as shown.

Perhaps it's my eyes, they've seen better days, or the fact that markings can be hard to see on a black knife, but I can't see any SEAL marking on that Police. TiNi coatings were done experimentally by Spyderco from fairly early on but the problem is, they were also done aftermarket by distributors and dealers. Would love to see the side of the box that has the label.

Appreciate that...

Unless they were scored into the steel, Police or Navy Seal markings would be covered. Same with Spydie logo. It was sold that none of the 3 were evident.

Box is plain except for the sticker.

Unless someone knows for certain otherwise , I’ll give the knife the benefit of the doubt. The coating appears remarkably thin, silky smooth, and aged.

My bad - I was looking at my pic rather than the knife.
The notch is shiny. So was notched after the black coating was applied.
