If I have to wear a ‘suit knife’, which is mostly only at weddings and funerals these days, it tends to be one of these:

- CF Chaparral
- a Superblue Delica dressed up in 4K CF scales
- CF Caly 3.5 ZDP189
- Kapara

Mostly this:

Hard to say for me. I have several that could qualify based on the responses by other folks (Nishijin Cricket, McBee, Chap CF, Pakkawood Dragonfly & Delica, CF Delica, Sage 1-5, Baby Horn, 40th Anniversary Native, Fluted Titanium Native, Caly 3.5 CF, etc). I'm not sure I'd carry any of those to an actual black tie event. I certainly wouldn't have a clip hanging off my pocket for something like that. I would have a knife in my pocket though. So I guess I'd drop something smaller down in my pocket. Maybe have something with a wire clip IWB in the back. IDK

The one Spyderco knife I have that I've always thought of as the ideal Gents folder (for me) is the CF Chap. small/thin with a dark wire clip. Works perfect in that role for me

Kapara.
And soon a Watu will join it.

For me it is what knives do I not take to work because I would not want to ruin them and have so many other knives that are work knives.

Its also what knife would I want to use at a friends wedding reception to more than likely cut the end off of a cigar.

Currently it is a Lil’ Native, for whatever reason it just seems classy to me. I hope to make it a Sun & Moon Chap soon though, I just have to meet a personal goal and it’ll be a reward to myself :p

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

There is definitely some disparity on what a “gentleman’s folder” actually is. Rightly or wrongly I see it as a knife that you could carry at a black tie gala function or a board meeting of a publicly listed company ... it’s functional jewellery like an elegant watch. It goes with a very good suit, highly polished shoes and a haircut that I wouldn’t feel comfortable with.

In my mind that rules out FRN scales, pocket clips and anything bigger or more intimidating than a traditional. I’m not even sure single hand openers would fit the bill.

It’s not criticism but I don’t think Spyderco really makes gents folders (by my definition). It’s not their market and it doesn’t need to be. They excel at making good, honest working knives that can last a lifetime. Sure some are prettier than others but they are, at heart, working knives, not pocket jewellery and that is a compliment to the company.

The closest I can think of is probably the GB Air, maybe the Memory but that’s already too big.

My mileage clearly does vary ;)
Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

A GB Air sprint would be amazing, so would Alistar’s slip joint. A smooth CF or Ti UKPK/Urban would be great as well.
Same here...GB Air is the closest I know of.

The Koppas' Deacon posted look great handle-wise, but blade is still a little tall. The kiwis have a non gent handle shape. Manbug might work with a proper handle.

I made my Air a little more gent-like with toned down micarta scales, the original ones a little too flashy for my taste. The only thing that stands out now is the hole, which I can't do anything about, and wouldn't want to anyway (gotta draw the line somewhere).

Much as I tried, still couldn't get the GB1 to gent status, even chopping it to 3", but still helluva good work knife.
