I just wanna say thanks for all your hard work over there at Knife Steel Nerds. I didn’t know very much at all about steel/metallurgy but thanks to that site I have some pretty good knowledge of it now. Of course there’s always more to learn that’s why I often find myself reading about different steels on the site. It really is a bottomless rabbit hole to go down but I have no regrets.

Hey MotoBro,

There are quite few steel Junky's down that rabbit hole and I've never heard anyone express regrets.

What? Somewhere in here I can imagine a version of Abbot & Costello's "Who's on first" bit...

This is Dr Larrin's steel in the video

Give a peak at what goes into make these humble little rectangles that make the dots on the graph.

The rumors are true, Dr Larrin has designed a New CPM stainless steel that is quite remarkable.

Excited to see how it does in testing with these two conditions .

Very cool!!!
This should be posted in a "Larrins casual bombshell-thread"! ;)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

We got a peak at the initial toughness and corrosion resistance of Larrin's invention ( I call it LT1). Those numbers look very, very good. The last piece, wear resistance I am sure will be good news as well. Thanks for your work Shawn, that all takes time and effort away from your own time at the grinder. Phil

Wow. LT1. Especially excited about good toughness numbers.

Can I get my forthcoming LW Manix blade in LT1 signed by Dr. T hisself?

Only if I get my PM2 LW in LT1 first!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Definitely won't be called LT1, but Phil can call it whatever he wants.

For those of us that believe in the good lord above, say a lil prayer that the toughness for "LT1" is respectable at 64HRC.

Godspeed for all involved!

I would love to see some of the budget steels like 8Cr, 9Cr, maybe a Chinese D2, 420HC, BD1(I know BD1N was done already) and H1 thrown into this. I know getting the stock could be the trick for a few of these, but maybe Sal could assist? Some of those steels are often regarded as being low end and I would love to see where they fall in the testing. I would also love to see H1 go head to head with LC200N as LC has such hype going right now.

420 is being tested. 8Cr13MoV probably isn't going to happen. Chinese D2 won't be tested as it is supposed to be D2, which we already tested, and if it wasn't D2 it would be something else. H1 would make everyone sad so I'm not sure anyone wants to see that.

Haha. Is 8Cr due to trouble obtaining it? Chinese D2 has been found to be something else in some cases, I think Cr12MoV. And in all seriousness, I have seen PE H1 so widely maligned that I would truly love to see the numbers. Thanks for all your work with this.

Yep, I want to test everything possible. H1 and serrated H1 included. Lets see what these steels do. Test everything please. ;)

I can't get any 8Cr13MoV. If someone sends me some then I can consider testing it.

I have only tested one serrated knife and that was one in VG-10. It never dulled over the course of the test (even with the longer test for serrated blades). So I lost interest in testing serrated blades. Just waste a lot of my test media.

I feel pretty privileged watching this develop. I'm not a big stainless guy but having one designed to get around stainless steels limitations while keeping the strengths sounds pretty good.

I've wanted to try that powder T 15 for over 10 years so please let us know how that performs also.

Thanks for keeping us involved and interested with this development .
