Magnesium Handled Military Date?

Does anybody know when this might come out? I always wanted one with a titanium handle but magnesium will do fine.

It depends on the "reaction" it gets at the shows. Since it is only a proto it may never come out. Then again it might come out 2 years from now. That was the wait for the Chinese Folder. I saw a proto at Blade, and 2 years later Spyderco started making them. Sometimes you have to wait awhile for the cool stuff.
But wouldn't a magnesium, D2 blade, ball bearing lock Military be cool!!

I checked out this proto type Military at the SHOT show and at the IWA Show in Germany. Only the handles are different. In this case they consist of silver/grey colored magnesium. Very light weight. Can easely take "ages" to hit the market or can just aswell be rejected.

The really nice thing about the Mag is that it can fairly easaly be color any color.Thay said the proto was not coated in anything and discolors to a greyish finish after handleing for a while. Not a problem for me I kind of liked that color but if you don't all you have to do is give it a good cleaning to bring back the light finish.

I'm all for the ball-lock. The D-2 is ok,no probs w/the current steel. But I'd rather they keep the G-10 and color it. OD green and desert brown would rock.

BTW-does anyone know if there's a collective name for the ball-lock style locks? Benchmade has the Axis,SOG has the Arclock, and Cold Steel has the Ultra lock, but they all share the same basic principle. A spring pushes a pin/bar/ball/whatever into the base of the blade. The only real dif is what actually gets set into the blade and the type of spring used.

If the only difference on the proto is the handle material I, maybe naively, would tend to think that making a “sprint run” with just that change wouldn’t be that long of a process. Machine the magnesium to the same shape as the G-10 and slap it on instead?

The model is just a concept model to test strength and weight. The AZ91E Mag alloy is used on racing cars. The handle would have to be cast and then coated like a mag wheel.

Do we need a magnesium Military?? No. I'm sure Spyderco has "cooler" toys coming that will make us all forget about a, umm..., something Military.

Yes we do need a differant Military.I belive the Military is about the only Spydie that has never been offered in any major variation.A small run with desert tan or O.D. scales would tickel me pink.
