Whatever happened to...

Postby The Deacon » Tue Apr 07, 2020 4:55 am

...the page, originally on Ted's website, then on Spydiewiki, where Ted had assembled PDF versions of many of the older Spyderco Catalogs, brochures, and Golden State Cutlery catalogs that you could download? Why has it disappeared?

Saw LouisSeacamp's thread on old brochures. Was going to suggest that he make PDF's of the ones not already on that page and send them to Spydiewiki. Wanted to a link to the that page, so I tried it before posting it, and the link was dead. Couldn't find any other link to it on Spydiewiki. Thought Spyderco may have been hosting them on the company website, but couldn't find them there either.

Me too, but I figure there are always going to be new members joining this Forum who have, or will develop, an interest in older models and Spyderco history and, aside from The Spyderco Story (which is now difficult to find at a reasonable price), that collection of older advertising literature is the closest thing we have to a historical record.

I'll have to look to see if I can recreate that page on the Spydiewiki. I'm not certain if the new Spydiewiki can host PDFs or not. Fortunately, I have everything from that link (minus the Byrd related ones) plus a couple older items not at that link saved.

It would be a great resource if Spyderco would make all the old catalogs available, as I'm possibly missing some earlier stuff (perhaps they didn't do catalogs or flyers every year in the early years).

This is what I have PDFs of:
1982 - flyer
1983 - nothing
1984 - price list
1985 - nothing
1986 - Spyderco catalog/price list combo
1987 - price list
1988 - nothing
1989 - price list
1990 - price list and Spyderco catalog
1991 - price list
1992 - price list
1993 - price list
1994 - price list, mid year price list, Spyderco catalog, and Golden Edge Cutlery catalog
1995 - price list and mid year price list (I have an Ironstone catalog from either late '95 or early '96)
1996 - price list and Ironstone catalog (not the same one mentioned above)
1997-2009 - price lists and catalogs for all years, plus some flyers, mid-year supplements, dealer catalogs, etc.
2010-current - no more price lists as of 2010 (except a 2015 pricing trifold and 2016 mid-year pricing guide), but I have all the catalogs, mid-year supplements, OpFocus, etc.

I do have a couple undated fliers from the earlier years as well. I could probably figure out their date by what knives are listed and comparing them to the availability in the pricing lists, but I'm about to go to sleep, so maybe I'll check it out tomorrow.

Here's what I have. Most came from Ted's page or Spydiewiki. Catalogs and most of the rest are in PDF format, and I can easily convert the JPEGs and PNGs to PDFs. Only issue would be the newer price lists where I only have the hard copies.

I guess my real question was whether the Spydiewiki page was pulled at Spyderco's request, or just got lost somewhere along the line. If the former, I will respect that. If the later, I will create a page for the ones I have on my website. It's fairly easy, all I really need to do is convert the pictures to PDFs, make thumbnails of everything except the price lists, and write a bit of HTML. :)

Hi Louis, and thank you. I would love to have copies of any pictures that aren't already on my list.

Hey, Paul:
We didn't take it down or move it - it wasn't directly connected to Spydiewiki.com when we purchased that domain. However, I like where this is going. Give me just a bit of time to make some arrangements and I'll post in a new thread. :)

Interesting that they actually listed RC hardness back then...
Top three going by pocket-time: Endura 4 in VG 10/Micarta-scales; Stretch 1 in VG 10; Endura 4 in HAP 40
