Lil Native Salt SE

#1

Post by Evil D »

It has recently occurred to me that I need this knife so if y'all can get busy producing it that'd be great :D

G10 or FRN is fine but prefer FFG LC200N. Lock is also optional.

I agree!

I would prefer the compression lock, but the LC200N blade in the BENSHOT glass appears to be a backlock...

I'd really like this knife as well, but I think I'd prefer to have a backlock. I'd carry it mostly loose in running shorts or sweatpants, or loose in a dry bag or strapped to a kayak, and I just feel more confident doing all those things with a backlock.

i’ve been asking for this for a while now. in my mind, it would be like a mini caribbean, so it makes sense you’d want one.

the lil native doesn’t have as much blade mass as some of the larger knives that might be shaken enough to overcome the detent during activity. personally, i don’t think the company lock is a problem with larger knives either, but i think it’s even less of a problem on a small knife like the lil native.

This would be great in FRN.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

To me, serrations make the most sense in a longer blade, so I'm not too interested in a SE Lil Native. But then, the Lil Native is a smaller knife than I usually like to begin with.

Serrations technically make an edge longer by I think something like 30% per inch, so it's a good way to give a small knife more edge to work with. I absolutely love my Se Dragonfly Salt, it cuts far better than a knife that small should.

Anyway someone on the FB group posted a pic with a bunch of Shamans and Natives and a Lil Native and I was surprised how much the Lil Native resembles a scaled down Shaman. It really could be a Lil Shaman instead of Lil Native.

Yeah IMO there are pros and cons to a small SE blade. On the one hand, what you say is true that SE gives more actual cutting edge. Also, the serrations help grab hold of the material being cut, lessening the chance of it simply sliding off the end of the blade. On the other hand, with a small blade most of your cutting is going to be push-cutting since there's not enough blade length to do much slicing, and it's the slicing motion that allows the serrated teeth to come into play and really makes SE shine IMO.

All comes down to personal preference in the end.

Lightweight, FRN, compression lock and wire clip, similar to the Para3 lightweight. I'm in. H1 SE is great too.

Oh, wait, that wouldn't work because Natives are made in Golden, right? SE LC FFG it is then.

interesting. that is a great observation. i’d still prefer this one in pe, but i also like my se df2 salt. maybe that’s why i’d like a good small pe.

i know a lot of people want to see this in frn, and we probably have a better chance of that after the success of the para 3 lw, but i’d really love a g10 comp lock salt.

We’ve been asking for this since the knife hit the market. I’m sure one will be popping up one day.

Considering the blade that's in the rocks glass in the last reveal, I think a Lil' Native Salt back lock has to be coming soon.

I totally forgot about that, it would definitely seem like a waste to make that blade solely for that item.

I agree. I hope we get the Lil' Native Salt this summer. I'd be fine with any brightly colored G10 for the scales too. As much as I like my Native 5 LW, it's just not as smooth as my liner-less Native G10.
