Bring Back the Catcherman?

I have the toxic green USO sprint run but I don't want to use it because it has collector value. I would think an H1 or LC200 with black or yellow FRN would be relatively inexpensive to produce and a bit hit. :)

Nah, two different styles. This is a specialized knife, rather than a general EDC. They can cohabitate.

I love the Catcherman. My son is an avid fisherman and would love one to use, so if it came back I know I'd be two at least.

LC200N in a nice bright colour, but not yellow. Lime green is fantastic if not the toxic green.

I prefer yellow. It's easy to dye any color, including toxic green.

Finally! That's the answer I was looking for. :) Seeing as how you've already brought it back once, I was willing to bet that you weren't a "third time's a charm" type of businessman and that you'd start from scratch with a new platform. I have my own ideas as to what I'd like to see as probably most fishermen do, but I completely defer to Mr. Wilson.

I still have my original that I bought in 1992 in a yellow handle. Why yellow instead of black, or maybe brown, I cannot remember the options. So I could find it easier if I set it down on the ground. I just sharpened it for the first time since I have owned it because it was finally getting dull in a couple of places. I love this knife as it is very useful. I would probably crap at the price someone would probably offer for it.

I picked up a NIB Catcherman on e-bay (black). I will primarily use it and my Siren as steak knives when I go out to eat. For actually filleting fish, a 6" version would make my tackle box shudder with delight.

Unless it's made in China I can't imagine a modern Catcherman being remotely competitive from a price point of view.

My main interest in this one is to get my hands on such a thin SE knife. So, while I'm not really in love with the Catcherman design, I would be interested in one and definitely would watch for a Phil Wilson designed fillet knife, especially if it were made thin and offered in SE.

I think your assessment is spot on. Not saying the average fisherman is a cheap bastid, but perhaps the average fisherman should not be Spyderco's targeted demographic in this instance. Something for nuttin' is always welcome, but we should let Spyderco do what it does best.........design and make a seriously good product for a seriously dedicated demographic. Does this rule out the average fisherman? I think not, but a premium filet knife for serious fishermen at a fair price is a market that Spyderco may do well to investigate. Of late, Spyderco has barely dipped their pinky toe in testing the waters in this regard but their collaboration with Surfgringo shows a willingness to explore this niche and is definitely a step in the right direction even though the Waterway and Siren are not real filet knives.

A Phil Wilson designed filet blade with proper distal tape and tip flex on a new platform would be exciting news indeed. Take my money please.
