Was the P'Kal wave opener angle/shape changed or is this wrong?

#1

Post by ThermalAdvancement »

I got a new P'Kal date code KS and the wave opener rod is slightly bent downward, in all the pictures it is straight.

I have never seen another like this, was this a recent change or is mine just plain wrong?

There are no signs of damage anywhere on the knife to indicate it was dropped, nor was the box crushed in.

Any input is appreciated.

Hi ThermalAdnancement,

Welcome to our forum.

That's not right. Can you unscrew it?

Not completely. I was able to get it to rotate only slightly. After that it does not want to any more. I pressed the tab firmly aginst a good wooden workbench to make it rotate, I was concerned about using more secure means due to the risk of damage.

Update, rotated it again not much change then rotated back to the original position and this happened. It must not be my lucky day.

Hi David,

Some things are less fun than others. When I told the factory manager what I wanted, he thought it odd, but managed to do it.

I can't imagine it leaving our plant in that condition, so I question how "new" it really was.

Hey TA, Where did you buy it? I'll give Charlynn a "heads-up" that it's coming.

Sal, what is the advantage of the screw-in Emerson wave bar as in the P'Kal, vs an integral Emerson wave as in the Delica & Endura?

The screw in can be removed if you don't want to use it. I've removed mine when trying out the P'kal for EDC because I didn't want to use the Emerson opening feature.

Are blades heat treated before or after machining and this kind of drilling? I've always preferred this kind of wave hook, I would like it on a few models especially if it were something I could remove when I wanted and maybe screw a plug into the blade when not being used.

Well even if it cant be fixed, you always have the option to do a zip tie wave.

We can fix it one way or another. We still make the P'Kal.

Ok, that totally makes sense. I guess I just never thought about wanting to remove it!

The vendor I bought it from was G4G Guns, ordered an insistent, emphasis, and ambitious at the same time and they were all perfect. I will send you a copy of the receipt.

Hi Garageboy,

That would be my guess. Or perhaps someone hammered it down because they thought they could "improve" on the design.

Hi TA,

We don't need a receipt. Charlynn knows it's coming in.
