EDC loose pocket clip
EDC loose pocket clip
Apologies if wrong post location or repeat. Simply - The pocket clip on my Endura (faithful companion for many years) has stretched/loosened/bent so that it doesn't clip firmly in my work pants. Obviously I can bend it in a vise, but is there (a) best way(s) to accomplish this? Do I need to be concerned over metal fatigue? What is the best spot on the tang to manipulate?
Thanks for the help,
-JD

Welcome to our forum. I'll let our members offer their advice. We have a very kind and helpful community. I'm going to move this thread into the General Discussion area though -- the Tech Support area is for help with the actual forum.
We hope you enjoy your time with us.

Re: EDC loose pocket clip
I've bent some clips(Spyderco and other brands) with a pair of needle nose pliers, and haven't had any issues. Doing this more than once might fatigue the steel though. The nice part of this fix, is that you can set the clip tension to whatever you like.

I actually bent some Endura clips cause I wanted a more secure purchase in the pocket when hiking. It really does not take much bending to achieve that and I never had any issues when doing so.
I even did not use a vice, but just pliers, or fixated the clip on the edge of a table by hand...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):

Remember that all the metal that you try to bend is going to be springy. It doesn't matter if its your pocket clip or a one inch thick steel plate. You need to bend it beyond where you want it to end up, because it's going to spring back. You won't be able to fix it "in situ," so you'll need a torx driver to remove the clip. You could put it in a vise, then use some kind of pliers to gently bend the clip back to where you want it. Don't go too far. Bending it back and forth is what will fatigue it. Worst case, you'll have to find another clip. I'd bet there are nice ones available, if you can't get a replacement from Spyderco.

Thanks, Bloke. I needed that. :D
When you bend the clip, do it carefully, and a tiny bit at a time. Screw it to the handle just tight enough to hold it there, and try it out until it feels how you like it. I have done it a lot, especially on Dragonflies. They always come too snug.

As always my friend: A pleasure and honor to get "bloked" :)

Re: EDC loose pocket clip
I have fixed quite a few clips. I had a clip on a Military catch a seatbelt and it bent out about 30 degrees. I was sure it would break when straightened but it didn’t. Still working fine.

Re: EDC loose pocket clip
Here's an interesting method I like to use. For something like an endura or delica with 2 symmetrical holes in the clip. I'll unscrew the clip and then flip it around. I screw it back to the knife using 2 screws. Then I bend it back down. Helps to see how it will interact with the scales when you put it back on right.
Here's some terrible pictures to explain better.
Here you can see if it's bent enough to touch the scale and provide friction.
Then you just flip it back around.

Awesome VashHash. People have tried to explain that and I just can't picture it. So thank you for the pics.
