I don’t always carry a Back Lock...

Post by Dazen »

...but, when I do it’s usually a Hawkbill!

I didn’t think I’d like anything more than my PE Tasman, but, then came the SE Spyderhawk and boy was I wrong.

If you’re typically a Compression Lock fan, what Back Lock do you use?

As a compression lock fan, which backlocks do I use?

All of them, of course!

Backlocks are far from my favorite locks, but unfortunately, my two favorite models are backlocks

just to be clear, i was joking because most comp lock threads turn into a backlocks are better convention. however, i will say i do love my backlocks too. salts are especially good as backlocks because of their simplicity and resistance to getting jammed up with sand and such at the beach. my pacific salt is always in my boardshorts here in hawaii. i still haven’t tried a caribbean because the pacific salt is so good.

Most recent backlock for me, Native Chief. Picked up over the weekend. It's going to be a fantastic carry piece. I was raised on backlocks and slip joints. I do still enjoy a smooth compression lock. Other backlocks are spyderco DF2's, Schrade Uncle Henry LB7 and a Buck 525T. Spyderco does a solid backlock.

While I will take a back lock over a comp lock I prefer the stop lock over either and wish it would make it's way into more models. While it is not the best for one handed closing it excels in many ways.

For me, lock preferences would be... Bolt Lock, Compression Lock, CBBL, Liner Lock, RIL, Back Lock

I don't think there's anything wrong with any of them, just my preference.

As far as back lock Spydies specifically... I'd say the Police (+Ulize) family & Stretch family are my most owned and used.

Oh man, I really love that Endura pic...

But one question: Did you mod the ZDP Endura? It looks like sabre grind, or maybe as if the ffg was turned into some hollow grind on the lower part of the blade? Or is it just the lighting (can´t quite see it on my phone screen...)

EDIT: Just realized that the ZDP Endura actually came also in sabre grind (and not only the VG10)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

IIRC At one time you could pick up a serrated, saber grind, ZDP Endura for about $50 on closeout.
