SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
A while back, there were requests for us to use a Japanese steel called SRS-15. We investigated the material and found that we cannot get SRS-15, but we can get SRS-13. I would guess that SRS-15 is proprietary.
So my questions would be: Are you interested in this steel? What models(s)? Mule team?
SRS-13 would be San Mai ( cladded )
SRS13
C:1.30
Si:0.30
Mn:0.30
Cr:13.00
W:1.25
Mo:2.75
V:1.50

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
Appears to be the same thing? If performance is equal I'm sure it would do great
S30V, VG10, M4, XHP, BD1, Cruwear, Elmax, Maxamet, 204P, H1, K390, A11, Rex45, LC200N, M390, 20CV, BD1N, S45VN waiting to afford MagnaCut
Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
The difference would be in 1.3 carbon vs 1.5 carbon.

Put it in one of the Japanese models. For folders the endura comes to mind.
But for a fixed blade... the Bill Moran models are begging for a different steel, or a street beat/bowie.

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
We have wanted to try it for a long time now. If it's called SRS 13 but performs the same I'd still be in the buying mood. I'd really like an Endura with it. I have a large collection of mules as it is that don't get enough use just because they don't fit quietly into my pocket like my Endura does. For practical reasons I'd go with the folder every time but I will buy whichever platform is chosen.

I would be interested in any model, but an Endura would probably get the most use.

This looks like an interesting steel. I would definitely be interested in a Mule but would prefer an Endura for the same reasons as stated by the Mastiff and Albatross.

An endura would probably be the best choice for a folder. I know I would pick one up at least

I was thinking to do the entire Endura family as a Sprint? Which is growing lately with the addition of the P4 and the Endela, and more if you include Wharncliffe's. Plus we've got the Rock Jumper coming this year. Maybe a dark brown?

Zome white and black!

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
I’d definitely buy the endura and dragonfly wharncliffes. A mule would be awesome as well. Zome black and white would get my handle vote, though I’d buy regardless of handle color.
BRING ON THE MANIX XL SPRINTS AND EXCLUSIVES! And 10v or K390ify the Golden lineup, please.
Top 5 folders I’ve owned: Serrated Caribbean Leaf, Shaman, Manix XL, ZDP-189/CF Caly 3.5, Native LW.
Top 5 steels I’ve owned: LC200N, K390, CPM S90V, M390, CPM REX45.
Top 3 steels I want more of: M390 class, A11 class (including K390), CPM REX45.

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
I'd buy it in a Mule instantly.
I'd probably buy it in one of the Japanese models to try it, but the only ones I ever carry anymore are the P4 and the DF2, so I'd prefer one of those to an Endura or Delica.

I would be most interested in a Stretch 2 and maybe an Endela. Brown FRN sounds good. I like cladded blades.

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
Sal,
SRS-13 looks a lot like SG2 with the addition of a touch of tungsten. Should be fairly fine grain and pretty tough. Given my experience with SG2 i would definitely like it and think it would be a very well balanced all around steel. Would definitely love to see it in an Endura, Stretch, or P4. I think it would really rock as an all around EDC in the straight spine Stretch. Maybe with foliage green scales?

Tbh, I don´t know too much about steels (had to look this one up actually... :o )
But cladded, Endura family and dark brown handle (great color for that!) sounds all perfect too me! :)
I´d like an Endura and/or from all I know a Rock Jumper...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
That steel sounds interesting, and it is good to know that the P4 would be included. I like the idea of a zome handle. How about the ZDP green and the off-white from the SS Stretch?

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
SRS-13 is nearly identical to SRS-15 (just a tad less carbon.) According to the zknives app, SRS-15's typical hardness is around 63-64 HRC. I wonder if -13 could achieve that hardness?

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
I have no knowledge about or experience with SRS-13/15, but if it has similar performance characteristics to SuperGold2 than I would buy a P4-LW or Endela for sure. I have an Endura in SG2 and I really enjoy it... edge retention, toughness, and sharpenability all remind me of S30V. I'm in for at least one model. :)

Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
I’d take a Mule, P4 and Endura if all of the above is accurate. I’d much prefer some shade of blue, green or gray over brown, but color isn’t usually a deal breaker for me.
Re: SRS-15 / SRS-13 ?
Mule, Delica, and Stretch for me ... one of each!
