Police 4 issue.

#1

Post by Fright_Fox »

Hello I have two police 4 k390 models and one stays in the safe and has never been used. I took it out for some wiping with tuff cloth and noticed a weird ‘lump’ what is this?? Thank you.

Hmmmm... that's a new one for me, mine doesn't have it. I'm curious though...

Probably something to do with how the lock bar was cut out. If it doesn't effect operation I wouldn't worry about it.

Hopefully it’s just a benign tumor and nothing to worry about. :p

Mine has it too. I wonder if certain date codes have it, while others don't?

Seems like lock bars might be stamped out instead of laser cut, and then machined in the important places. I've seen the underside of them looking pretty ragged before. At least it's in a (mostly) hidden spot.

Yeah, but that lock bar looks like it has tool marks as if it had been machined. That lump looks like a weld for some reason?

I bet it is there to prevent blade wrap when the blade snaps closed. I had a police 4 and unfortunately it had blade wrap so I sent it back. Maybe this was their cheap and quick fix?

Blade wrap is when the edge contacts the inside of the back spring if anyone out there is wondering wtf blade wrap is

My police 4 also has this. It could possibly be for the blade rap. Pushing the kick a little more than just the back spring would.
I can see a line in the bump that might be the kick hitting it. After closer inspection with a flashlight it seems to line up with it while closing.
