Earth brown/dlc or Blue/dlc bento para 2?

#1

Post by ncvarmint »

Hello all,
I am in the market for a new para 2. I have the black/dlc and the grey maxamet versions now and am debating on the bento blue/black or the earth brown/black s35vn version. I like em both but can only afford one at the moment

Thanks for all input

Get the M390, awesome knife all around! I’m surprised that they are even still around.

Thats what i am leaning more toward. Love the blue/black combo and since it is an exclusive it may not come back later on

Vote for M390 here. While I don't love the blue (just too bright for me) of the BBS exclusives, you can always pick up aftermarket scales for much cheaper than you can buy an upgraded blade. Or ****, throw them in some RIT dye.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Blue.
s35vn Is similar to s30v.
M390 is a steel you should have experienced.

I wonder what you and others see in M390 that I don't see? M390 seems a lot closer to S35VN than S90V to me and other than it being in the extreme stainless range I don't understand the claims of its superiority over S30V or S35VN, but I may very well be missing something.

Blue for me. That's why I had to buy one, otherwise I'd only have 1 pm2 because S30v is fine with me.

I also got my custom crooked river in blue and black, and just ordered a mini Crooked River in the same scheme... Lol

M390

I own S35VN only because it will not sell for what I have in it.

I sold my M390 because it was not much better than S35VN and was able to break even selling it.

I would take a Maxamet model over both of these steels or wait for S45VN that is soon to come out.

I don't have a Spyderco in M390 yet. I wouldn't mind it at all if they made it more accessible and decided to use it in regular production runs, especially in their Flagship models.

I have an Earth Brown PM2 and a Para 3 in S35VN and I like those both just fine. Being new to Spyderco and knife collecting, I don't see much of a performance difference between S30V and S35VN but I really enjoy the brown G10 handles!😊

Remember there are 2 steels nearly identical to M390 CTS-204P and CPM20CV
