Amsterdam Meet Announcement

#1

Post by TazKristi »

As you all know, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is currently a serious worldwide health issue. The recent increase in reported cases in Europe is of particular concern, especially as the Spyderco Crew prepares for several important European events.

Spyderco cares deeply about our staff members and their families and are committed to doing everything in our power to keep them safe and healthy. With that in mind, after careful consideration, we have decided to suspend our staff’s international business travel until the situation improves. Sadly, that means we must cancel the Spyderco Meet in Amsterdam, Holland that was scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2020.

We are very sorry we will not be able to host this popular event as planned. We will certainly miss the opportunity to connect with our devoted fans and get your feedback on our latest designs. Currently, we do not have specific plans to reschedule the event this year, but please rest assured, the tradition will continue. As plans for future Meets develop, we will announce them on the Spyderco Forum.

Thank you for your understanding of this difficult decision and for your continued passion for Spyderco products.

Respectfully,

The Spyderco Crew

Safety and health must come first. Sorry to hear this great event has been canceled.

I was very looking forward to upcoming Sunday. To bad it is canceled. But I, and I think we all care about the safety of the Spyderco crew and ourselves. See you all next year!

Major bummer but it's not a bad idea. Can't be too safe. Bring on the next reveal!

I could cry right now.. Of course i don't blame anyone, but it's one of the highlights of the year!
I just hope i can cancel flight and hotel. Is it totally out of the question it will be re-scheduled during 2020?

Most responsible thing Spyderco could do really given the situation.

Ah, this is really sad news. Was really looking forward to meeting the friends I made the last couple of years, checking out the protos,... and adding the 2020 coin to the collection, not gonna lie :). But, I do understand the decision. I sure hope there's still a slight chance of having another meet in 2020.

I understand and respect the precautions taken in this case, but it's still a proper gut punch :(
Had to do a double take when I saw the email just now and thought I must've misread it at first...
I can say that the meet is without a doubt my favorite day of the year each and every time I attended :(

As mentioned before, I can see it's better to be safe than sorry; just really hope it might possibly be rescheduled for 2020.

*EDITED*
I quite enjoyed following the other thread in the Off-Topic section. I personally didn't see it as a bad or dangerous thread. Because of the thread I managed to grab a handful of items. Spent <$100. Hopefully I won't need them. Thanks for the heads-up!

Also disappointed the crew is skipping the Amsterdam Meet this year. Next to Shot Show, it was one of the highlights of the year to get a look at the new blades. Spyderco made the right decision to cancel. Unnecessary risk avoided by not going.

I am sad that there will be no sneak peek in Mr.Blonde thread, but there are just pics of knives, people's lives are more important.

A) Pity, I understand that many spydienuts will be disappointed.

B) It's the right thing to do. Period.

C) Does that mean no preview pics of new models this year....?

Sorry for those who had planned on attending! :(

No doubt it was the best decision, though.

Not easy decision for sure, but fully understandable under the circumstances we experience now in EU (incl. also health checks, risk of quarantaine, logistic issues, etc). Same place, next year! Stay safe.

I also regret these circumstances and I think Spyderco made the right call by canceling the meet. There's always next year!

Thanks for the update, Kristi! Can't imagine this decision came easy, though it is very understandable as health and safety should always be a priority. :spyder:

I realise nobody could handle any prototypes, but what about a live stream meet... might not be a realistic option though.

It's the right call given the circumstances. Hopefully next year things are better.
