CQI Caribbean?

#1

Post by curlyhairedboy »

So the Caribbean is hard to find at the moment and I'm sure Taichung is working on another batch. I've heard there's some scale-related CQI in various threads here. Does anyone have particulars?

Fixed Blades: Proficient, Magnacut Mule

Would like to own again: CQI Caribbean Sheepsfoot PE, Watu

I haven't seen anything about this. I wouldn't mind seeing the center oval thing done away with and just have the groove pattern all the way across the scales. Besides that and maybe color variants I would just make the detent stronger.

For those looking still, RiversEdge has the pe leaf and sheepsfoot in stock. But neither in se.

I can’t comment on any C.Q.I. since I have to time with this model.

I was told that it had something to do with the liners, maybe galvanic corrosion issues? Maybe someone at Spyderco can let us know?!

It isn't the same pivot as a Para 2 or Military so I'm gonna say no. However, I've had no problem getting perfect action from mine.

I need to get another sheepsfoot, they're incredible.

I don't know how long the Caribbean will be on the market, but when you think about the design and engineering going into it, it's destined to be a landmark achievement for production knives.

Well, we know there is probably a FRN version planned, but it might not be the CQI that was rumored. :)

In the first pic, did your Caribbean come with that finish on the liners? I seem to recall mine being smoother.

Yep, I haven't modded the liners in any way. I believe they're both fairly rough, the pic may make it look worse.

Thanks, I was curious. Smoothing those out might be part or all of the cqi then.

Is this true? I was just contemplating how great an FRN version would be, but figured it was wishful thinking.

Yep, sal has said it's planned. I don't think he's elaborated further.

Caribbean is high on my list.
It would be nice if it has a stronger detent....or maybe two detents, like on a Smock.
