Spyderhole corrosion

Post by Fright_Fox »

I think the spyderhole is the best in regards for deploying a knife but mine has orange rust specks in it (vg10) is this normal?

I would not call it normal, but VG10 can rust as pretty much any steel but H1 can... have you tried "Bar Keepers Friend"?

If I buy used, I find the Spyderhole is the first place to corrode. If there is any corrosion on a blade, 9/10 it seems that it will be found in the Spyderhole as well. I think it’s the lack of polish, but even then, I have seen polished Spyderholes (Taichung models for example) that have rust or oxidation.
Maybe the hole is prone to trapping moisture while in the pocket?

I think that the person I got it from on eBay sold it as new but it could have been used as it didn’t come with the oil on the blade like the one I got from a trustworthy seller. It seems to have corroded in the liners and spyderhole whilst my other delica has not had a speck of rust. I’ll try bar keepers friend thanks.

Are you sure it's rust? Sometimes the heat from the laser causes orange/brown discoloration on the inside of the Spyderhole.

Take a bit of mineral oil and rub it on it, it should come right off.

It's an easy place for it to form, being rough it'll collect crud and moisture. I always clean mine up with a Dremel anyway because I like the edge of the hole to be sharp.

A qtip and powder cleanser will take care of whatever it is.

Normal. The inside of the hole isn't finished as well as the rest of the knife so is more likely to rust. Comes off easy as others have said.
