I really don't see why all the Salt models aren't offered in all black like the Delica and Pacific have gotten. Seems like a no brainier.

they would sell so many of these. i'd probably buy at least four ladybug salts if they were offered in black and at least one df2. they shouldn't be sprints or exclusives though. these should be production offerings.

Definitely production. All black Ladybug and Manbug Salts would be awesome. Especially if they added a blacked out Jester Salt to the lineup!

Just saw the Manbug Wharncliffe thread, and I'm bumping this one back up out of pure self interest :-)

I've added a Wharnie DFly2 to the toolkit since initially posting this, but I'm still hoping we'll see a black handled SE Salt at some point, in H1 or something else. Lots of new steel options in new colors, and I get the tradition of that...there's a precedent for blacked out Salts, so this one seems like a no brainer. Scanning back over this and a couple of other threads, and it looks like a LOT of demand for DLC or TiCN coated blades.

Anything on the horizon?

Bump :), its a great idea, cant believe we don't have a regular production blackout dragonfly.
Just got me first dragonfly H1 Serrated, its a handy little knife.
The serrated H1 is real sharp, been trying it on lots of different things, the little guy cuts well and seems to hold an edge pretty good.
The new blacked out hardware is nice, a black clip would have been cool.
A tiny bit of up and down blade play when applying cutting pressure to the blade, but ive read its fairly common in dragonflys, so I can live with it, no biggie.
Great ergonomics for a small knife, very well designed.
Would love a salt blackout version or even a vg-10 blackout version, any blackout dragonfly would be cool.

i still want a black df2 salt badly. at this point, i'd prefer it in lc200n and plain edge because i already have a se df2 salt.

I dislike black blades. I don’t personally see the appeal. Seems a little wanna-be “tactical” to me.

But then again I’ve carried a DF2 with a satin blade and black or BRG FRN everyday for a decade, so I’m likely a little biased.

it's not for everyone. thankfully spyderco has a wide variety. i don't care for satin blades and that's the majority of spydercos. i still carry them even though i typically prefer stonewashed or coated blades.

Because where certain knives are not legal, a blacked out knife on black shorts is very discrete.
Also when the blades open it doesn't attract the attention a silver blade does, it doesn't scare people as much.
I wasn't a fan of black blades and blacked out knives, but im a big fan now.

even if it is a little wannabe tactical, who cares? lots of people dress up in camouflage and play paintball or as medieval knights and joust at renaissance fairs. i don't love every spyderco, but i'm learning not to tell other people what they should like based on my own preferences. variety is the spice of life.

And don't forget that nasty sun reflection on the blade... Coming from the place you should be looking at... sunglasses aren't always an option :p
