the standard shaman isn't a reasonable price either. the manix 2 in the same materials is $80 cheaper and even cheaper still in a lightweight model. if you’re bent on the compression lock and g10, the paramilitary 2 in the same materials is still $50 cheaper. “but that’s because they have thinner blade stock,” you say? okay, then try the yojimbo 2 in the same materials and thickness, which is also $50 cheaper. if you really want a shaman, spend the extra money, but i personally don’t think it’s worth it. i’d much rather spend less on a yojimbo or manix and think they’re both better knives than the shaman anyway.
Not to be contrary, but a new base model Shaman can be had on the reg for 130-150 on the secondary market (see deals 2 thread) -- I don't really have a problem with what the regular price is for it, but at those prices, I have a hard time saying it's an apples-apples sort of affair in any respect. I *LOVE* the Manix2 platform, it's my #3 most collected Spydie, but if tough use is called for, I would go to a Shaman (I have 6) before a Manix2 any day of the week, even if it was the same steel called for -- cru-wear, m4, s90v... but hey, just my 2c, and this is just my observation with my use cases, everybody's got different uses/needs/approaches, etc, etc. I feel incredibly fortunate that I have the ability to make those choices on a daily basis, edc rotation and all...
