New way to carry the Millie....

#1

Post by KBR »

I received my new Horizontal sheath for my Military yesterday, from Vess, and just had to post about it. According to him, it's the first of its' kind in the world!! (at least the first that he's made)

I found it very comfortable for carrying this big Spydie, on my right hip, and both sheathing and unsheathing was a breeze. If anyone is looking for an alternative to pocket carry for your s, not just the Military, I highly recommend Vess for a custom, high quality, leather sheath. You can check out his website here;

Oh man, those sheaths rock! The horizontal police model looks tailor-made to solve the problem that I was just *****ing about in another thread, namely, that it rides so high in my pocket. I've got to look into these.

I have his first vertical Military sheath.They are very high quality sheaths.Can't wait to see one for the Native.I would also love to see one for the Kiwi that has a pocket clip and rides cliped to the top of the pocket like a large spydie that would make the Kiwi carry like a knife with a clip.

Not happy with the Native sheath yet. It's covered with grotesque scars, as intended, and the colour is more or less what I wanted it to be, but the color of the stitching... I just can't decide. I tired white, brown, green and now red... Just experimenting.

I think stiching the same color as the leather looks best.

Yep... I've narrowed the colors down to brown and white as well. Brown sheath and brown thread, or brown sheath and white thread.

But with black, even violet thread goes if the tooling is painted violet like on the new Perrin pocket sheath. But black sheath on black thread is just professional-looking...

Ah, well... I guess I'll stick with basics and re-do the Native sheath in brown. Also, canted sheaths don't feel as good as vertical or horizontal. Somehow they just don't feel right to me...

Funny thing is, for Police and Military a sheath works even better than for a Gunting... :D

What type of thread do you use Zess?
That almost looks like embroidery floss.

The red thread is actually from a local Walmart. Dunno what it's for, I just saw it was the right thickness so I grabbed it, waxed it and stitched the sheath. Fooling around with color... Didn't work too well, so I'm going back to regular colors.

Normally I use waxed or nylon thread specifically for leather and sometimes shoemaking. I used to buy plain thread at first and dye it to exact color, but since I started using mostly black or white threads, I just started buying them pre-made for a more professional look.

And yes, it IS a Spydie Perrin fixed blade pocket sheath. Posted it on my site at noon. The colour on the embossed flower is really nice in real life, and the thread color matches exactly (dyed a professional white thread).

Nice leather sheath dude! How much does it cost? It'll be CL in kydex cos leather tends to breakdown due to the hot and humid conditions here in Malaysia...
