Larger K390 Roadie

#1

Post by Dazen »

Would y’all be interested in a Larger Roadie in K390? I brought this up to Sal in another thread, and his reply was below. I ask because I personally love the Roadie but wish I had a larger version in some cases. I love the lightweight FRN, slim scales, double dents and of course the slip joint. I say K390 because it’s made nearby in Europe as well, and I think would make this Slipit something special.

If I could change anything in the Larger Roadie it would be maybe premium scales like micarta or CF, but I don’t know if it would be costly or infeasible because everything else made in Italy is FRN. I would also like to see screw together construction for maintenance.

Hi Dazen,

We've talked about it ( large Roadie ) but have no plans at this time. I'll watch reaction.

I’d be interested, as long as it was a normal thickness, if that’s even possible with the awesome divots. I love those, just not the thick blade.
- best wishes, Jazz.

I am a definite maybe. I'm with Jazz here, 2.9 mm is too thick of blade stock for a slip joint for me, especially with a short (in height not length) blade.

I am curious about the possibility of double dents on thinner blade stock?

I’ve actually been carrying the Roadie despite my complaints for it being too thick a stock.

It’s a great knife, snappy and refined. I enjoy the W&T better than any traditional I’ve owned and then some. I think if it were just elongated to 1.5x or 2x the length it would be pretty nice. It’s not gonna be a food knife, but it’ll tackle everything else with ease.

I think I'd rather a K390 UKPK.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

A roadie with a 6 inch blade would be glorious.

Ok now we're talking. Larger Roadie? Not really interested. XL Roadie? Oh yeah!

That would be a negatory, sir.

I was just thinking about a Roadie II today. I’d like to see the raised portion of the blade with the divots moved back a little and a clip point added. A 2.5” blade would be ideal.

I was playing with my Roadie this morning, and I was thinking that what I'd really love to see is an upgraded Roadie sprint. Something like M390 (but I'd take K390, I'd just prefer stainless for this) and some kind of dark wood, or maybe smooth Micarta.

Does anyone know if the Roadie sale numbers are high enough to justify a sprint?

Given my love for the K390 Urban, I'd probably buy three of those the moment they hit the market. But since the K390 Urban was already a thing, is a K390 UKPK really justified? The two models fill very similar roles. And with the UKPK being made in Golden, would Rex45 make more sense for it?

My dream UKPK is still Maxamet, though. :)

I don’t know why people dismiss the Roadie. It is a very capable little knife.

There are better apple slicers but it gets the job done. It will peel one well. Other tasks it does pretty good.

I’ve been carrying mine for the last several days and gifted a red one to someone on Sunday.
