Forum knife 2020 - model poll

#1

Post by Ric »

Hello, I talked to Doc Dan and we came up with this suggestions. As Sal said, he "suggests" a Golden model.
We eliminated the models which were a forum knifes already and the one's that are no so popular (in our opinion).

The Manix LW needs some love. I'm thinking a DLC Cruwear Manix LW with a translucent smoke grey FRCP. No extra words/#s on the blade or scales. Maybe a special holographic xxx/xxx sticker on the box.

The Shaman is the only one of them that I am interested in. The ManixLW is great but i already have a few and rarely carry them.

We discussed this last time and it got ignored. A Wharncliffe Delica and a UKPK were the favorites then. I imagine they would both still go over well.

I am totally with you steelcity16 on a manix lw in cruwear. Heck I even started a thread about it over three years ago asking for one and polling people.

Out of the given choices (and I get it: Only Golden models, so no Chaparral and so on) I personally have to go with:

- Manix 2 LW: Great knife, great lock, just a too short cutting edge
- Shaman: Other than the lock I like it a lot

And to be honest: Please not another Para 3 in whatever version. There are so many variants out there already, and from what I read it is a quite "controversial" knife: Some love it, some just don´t get it... (and both is fine of course, but imho not for a forum knife)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Shaman and UKPK for me-- but only if it's the drop point UKPK.

I skipped the otherwise awesome red G10 Heinnie Haynes exclusive for it's leaf blade (and i don't like red).

Edited to reiterate from the other threads where i posted it-- bolstered Shaman anyone? My micarta model is enough lighter than my G10 model we could add bolsters w/o too much weight penalty.

Li'l Native or UKPK for me. CBBL in any shape or form is a dealbreaker for me. Shaman would be nice as well, albeit pricey.
Oh, and easy on the font size please ;) Forum name on the blade would be über-nice!

UKPK, because it's both affordable and legal for Spyderco to ship anywhere.

Agree 1000%

I voted UKPK. Seems like the best choice even though I don’t have one. But honestly, I’m going to buy whatever the next forum knife is. :D

Now that's got to rank high if we think outside our own boxes :)

Given the choices, I voted UKPK. Seems like it would be the most accessible option for the largest number of members. As others have mentioned, I'd love to see the drop point version!

A Shaman would be nice, but I feel like it might price itself out of consideration for more members than something a little less spendy..

H*ck, I wouldn't mind if the new forum knife were another PM2, or even a Native.. but whatever it turns out being.. please, please, please keep it simple! I passed on the 2018 forum knife because I just couldn't get into the web inlay scales..just way too flashy for me. Anything more subdued and simple, I will buy for sure!

I think the forum name idea is fantastic btw! Another round of forum name-tag bugs would be cool too! I did not get one last time..

Drop point UKPK would be great.

The forum name idea would be super cool also! Might be too much of a headache for Spyderco though.
