Let’s make Spyderco haikus

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

I was teaching poetry to some of my students and today we talked about Japanese Haiku poetry. While traditionally about nature, modern haikus can be about anything. So, I thought, let’s make some Spyderco haikus.

Haikus have a pattern of 3 lines, 5-7-5.
5 syllables
7 syllables
5 syllables

Ok. I’ll start.

My grey Spyderco
It is exceedingly sharp
It cuts my sandwich
I Pray Heaven to Bestow The Best of Blessing on THIS HOUSE, and on ALL that shall hereafter Inhabit it. May none but Honest and Wise Men ever rule under This Roof! (John Adams regarding the White House)

Follow the Christ, the King,
Live pure, speak true, right wrong, follow the King--
Else, wherefore born?" (Tennyson)

Home is not my home.
I do not understand why.
Happiness receeds.

Shiny blade in hand.
Sadness begins it's retreat.
Will happiness come?

I don't know, I'm in the middle of a remodel!

Picture a guy standing in the middle of a half finished house, disheveled, blank stare, clutching a knife and muttering to himself. Heh, that's me the past few weeks!
