Starting to be my favorite blade grind.
Re: Starting to be my favorite blade grind.
Funny, I cut a lot of cardboard, and nothing works like a FFG Delica wharnie.

Re: Starting to be my favorite blade grind.
my favorite thing about a high hollow is that if it's done properly, sharpening doesn't increase BTE thickness for a much longer time than the equivalent FFG.

Just do a better job than this https://www.reddit.com/r/Knife_Swap/com ... rco_smock/
if you try to thin out hollow grinds

Re: Starting to be my favorite blade grind.
How far up the blade does the grind need to qualify as HIGH hollow?

This is the crux of it. Many lump all hollow grinds together, when in fact there are huge differences between them.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 12:34 pm
The issue is that low hollow grinds suck and high hollow grinds are sort of uncommon. If done on a big wheel and brought way up the blade then they can perform exceptionally well. For example, look at the dragonfly salt vs the other salts.
I would be happy to see a few more hollow ground blades myself.

2/3rds 4/5ths obviously it's subjective, is the benchmark 1/2? I'm just curious because I don't know the stand and the term gets thrown around like a hot potato.Bill1170 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:15 pmThis is the crux of it. Re: Starting to be my favorite blade grind.
I love FFG and High(Full) Hollow.
I despise a Low Hollow on a folder, like the 4V Manix.
I'm not splitting logs with it. Honestly I love the 4V Manix, but the grind is the second nail in the coffin for me.
What I really want to see is an Afi Full Hollow(FHG) on something with a tall blade like the Caribbean, just let Sal go crazy on it. No warranty expressed or implied on the blade, only the handle components. Professionals only, Extreme care required, etc.
OR
Same thing, but done to a Baby Horn. That would be the worlds nastiest "pocket knife", the original is already a light saber!
OR, OR
Same, with a Caly 3.5.
These three would be guaranteed to see a lot of action in my hands.

There's a world of difference between a hollow grind and a hollow saber grind.

+1Surfingringo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2020 5:24 pmI like hollow grinds. They seem to outslice flat grinds in some types of media. I think maybe it is because there is less contact/friction between the sides of the knife and the material that you are cutting through? I feel like some “Sticky” materials like rubber or soft plastic respond better to hollow grinds vs flat. I’ve never done any side by side testing or anything though so I might be talking out of my A$$. :p
I have been circling getting a dragonfly for years now what are you guys preferring SE or Plain Edge?
Is it much smaller than a native?
I have a SE HAWKBILL dragon fly in H1 guess the handle is the same and dimensions are close?
