Post by hercules97 »

The idea behind a multitool is combining different tools into one, allowing users to fit in into their pockets. As this multi-tasking tool is so convenient and useful, it had gained worldwide popularity a long time ago. These days, manufacturers provide customers with a wide range of carrying options. The tools’ design and look are also significantly improved to ensure its versatility and usefulness. However, since there are many models to choose from, you might get overwhelmed and unsure of which one is the best fit for your needs. We understand this and will provide you with a review of the top-rated multitools below. Let’s take a look!

1. Leatherman Wave+

  • Dimension: 10 x 6.5 x 4.5 inches
  • Number of tools: 17
  • Weight: 8.5 oz or 9.5 oz with case

Leatherman Wave+ is the best-rated multi-tool for different purposes. It has 17 tools in a lightweight design that comes in just 8.5 ounces of weight. Its stainless steel construction gives the device a premium look while its body is specially built of heat-hardened steel to ensure sturdiness. Your Wave+ tool has all features that you need: a can/bottle opener, scissors, wire cutters, pliers, two saws, two blades, and a few screwdrivers.

We like this Leatherman Wave + because its screwdriver is customizable, allowing us to use it on different tasks with ease. Plus, its wire cutters are replaceable, which means the tool is highly convenient to use. So if we were asked: “what is the best multitool”, we would say the best one should give users flexibility and versatility. The current price of Leatherman Wave+ on Amazon is around $90, making it an affordable model for most shoppers.

2. Leatherman Surge

Specifications:
  • Dimension: 8 x 6 x 2.5 inches
  • Number of tools: 21
  • Weight: 12.5 oz
  • Material: 420HC stainless steel, Black Oxide
  • Primary Blade Length: 3.1 inches
  • Closed length: 4.5 inches
  • Warranty: 25 years
Leatherman Surge is one of the largest tools of this well-known manufacturer. It is designed for daily tasks around the house and the toughest while you’re on outdoor trips. Plus, Surge offers users with maximum functionalities with 21 tools. Some of its most unique tools are replaceable stranded-wire cutters, large and small screwdrivers, full-size knife blades, needle nose pliers, extra-large scissors, among a few others.

The materials of Leatherman Surge are thick, stiff, and robust. So Surge is, unsurprisingly, ranked as the highest-rated multi-tool for heavy-duty tasks. If you’re thinking of using this multi-functional tool for tough jobs like bending sheet metal or extensive wiring, you’ve got the right choice! One disadvantage of Leatherman Surge is its weight. With more than 12 oz, it’s not the most portable tool for daily carry, but a better fit for a toolbox.

SOG makes a series of innovative tools that have been used by US Special Forces. If you’re looking for a small tool to carry with you every day, then look no further. SOG Sync II is the right choice. It comes at only 5oz, which means it’s small enough to use as a belt buckle. Indeed, it fits belts of 1-3/4 inches wide.

It is built from solid metal in a compact shape of 3.1 inches in length. SOG Sync II is a perfect tool to keep in your pockets for unexpected events. However, it doesn’t mean it does not have many tools. It has 12 devices, and some of the most common ones are the wirecutter, a ruler, a pair of pliers, a small blade, and scissors.

Looks to have been written by Tony from everyday commentary. Don't always agree with him, but he's thorough and not a shill unlike some stuff I've seen on that site (gear junkie)
