Reverse Tanto tip ???

#1

Post by tecx226 »

I would like to see produce a folder w/ a reverse Tanto tip.

What do you think?

Would you buy it?

I'd like one. Pretty cool looking. (like a Carson 21 or Sawby custom)

Try the MBC forum, search for Yojimbo, which is a soon to be released (we hope) version of the Ronin fixed blade.

A reversed tanto tip... sounds more like a slightly modified Wharncliffe blade to me. I'd get myself one if the other features (ergonomy, aesthetics, size and materials) are appropriate.

I like the reverse tanto blade on the Benchmade Osborne 942. It has a strong tip for penetrating materials, as well as, a nice cutting edge for slicing, paring and cutting. It's one of my favorite non-Spyderco knives.

That's the only style of tanto I care for, that would be a good one! RKBA!

Q: The Yojimbo is one SERIOUS Clipit!WOW!

Dialex: Yeah, I really like the Wharncliffe design. Think of the version as being a 'tactical Wharncliffe' blade! Wouldn't that be COOOL!?

Toothed: I was picturing something like the Osborne 942 but with a straight cutting edge like the Ronin or Wharncliffe.

Basically a Bob Lum (C46) sharpened along the spine.

I too would just prefer a Wharncliffe blade. Hmm...how's this sound:Delica/Enduras w/VG-10 Wharncliffe blades and 3D Native-style handles? I think those would rock.

On a reverse tanto blade, is the straight section which I believe is on the top of the blade sharpened or is is more of a false edge?

False edge. Sharpening 2 sides of a blade makes for some sticky legal problems.

I'm a big fan of Janich's spin on the modified wharn. The angle of the non sharp side is very low to aid penetration. It also has a ramp effect pushing the cutting edge downwards. The Acheles Heel is tip strength but this isn't much of a plate armor society. :)

While the reverse tanto is a great looking blade and more task friendly the same could be said about a traditional drop point. Still, the RT is very cool looking. I'd buy one (or any tanto)!
