BHQs translucent "natural" G10 exclusives

#1

Post by archangel »

No offense, but am I the only guy here who thinks the translucent G10 is, well, ugly? Having the internal construction shine through the handles does not give me anything - au contraire. I think it looks weird, even wrong. Despite the fact that a folding knife is a technical thing, which I dig. And I do love knives not just for their practical aspects but also very much for their looks. But translucent scales.....

There was a time before I bought my Advocate when M4 had not been in my collection yet, and BHQ launched one of their exclusives. Was it the Shaman? I don't remember anymore. But I do remember that I did not buy it because of the look.

What do you think? Must-have, or rather no thanks? Or are you indifferent?

I don't like the way they look with satin blades and hardware. But, I think they all look awesome when in DLC. Must be the contrast for me.

I think the "petrified snot" scales are awful. I will replace mine with wood, micarta or polished G10 scales.
Will keep the original ones though since i don't do mods that are irreversible.
EDIT: I actually like the Leafstorm scales, but it's been done - move on IMO.

I LOVE the Jade scales. Where they really look great is with a model with full DLC liners and hardware like the Native and Manix. I also love the new GITD Delica. It has the same look during the day. I wish BHQ would do the Manix LW and Native LW in the same GITD FRN from the Delica.

I have yet to own any natural/jade g10, but I love the looks of it :) , especially when paired with a coated blade. There should be a dedicated picture thread for natural/jade g10 handled knives.

I'm kind of indifferent towards "natural G10". Even with a DLC coated blade, I'm still not a big fan of the color. If I buy any of these BHQ exclusives it is primarily for the design or the steel and I won't let the color turn me away.

Agreed it looks much better with dlc than with satin. And if you don't mind makjng a permanent mod, it's a good platform for lots of other colors.

Honestly, I didn't care for it until I bought a Hap40 Lum Chinese Folder. It was gorgeous, a lot less green in person.

Sorry dude I love it. I think it's a sweet color whether it's see through or not. That said I don't care for how it looks with black liners underneath, that makes it odd looking but it does contrast nicely with a black blade and hardware.

On a side note it's kind of gimmicky but I'd actually like to see more glow in the dark.

Pictures really don't do it any justice.. it is MUCH nicer in person. I like it fine.. It would never be my first choice of scale color, but it also hasn't dissuaded me from picking up a couple models (Native & now Dodo!!).

I think it looks alright when brand new, but if it gets a little dirty, it'll get ugly quick. But let's be real... hardly anyone will use the exclusives enough to make them dirty. I think I've seen one dirty exclusive or sprint in all the pictures I've seen.

I absolutely love it.

So much so that I own 7 of the jade/M4 millies, and 6 of the jade/M4 DLC Para 2s.

It's not as bright green as it is in renderings - it's the color of old school circuit boards - i don't love it, but i think it's a cool color - it's funny, people complain about black being the only options, but then the Caribbean and this comes out, and people want black again

Here's a few for ya :p I actually own mostly sprints and exclusives (14 of my 18) It's exciting to try out the different steels/materials besides what the standard models have to offer, in my opinion!

It’s not off-putting to me but I do dislike the trend toward dealer-associated and steel-associated colors. I’d rather we be tantalized by the next new color.

I'm ok with it and I've probably bought a couple BHQ exclusives although I own none now.
