I am all full up in the knife department. Nothing really interests me. I would be in for this one though. 3.5 flavor for me.

I might be interested in the 3.5.

Sal has said that only the FRN model will be made in Taichung with screw construction. He also said that the original model would continue being built with pinned construction in Seki City.
True. Not sure why I thought it was coming out of Taichung. So Seki it is. I don’t mind vg10 but feel it deserves something a little higher on the steel ladder.

I'm definitely in. The Caly is a classic design. Polished micarta, black or ivory, reminds me of the original Calypso, which is a great throwback.

My preference would be an ivory 3.5 in LC200N or K390.

I am interested in the 3" more, but what the heck.
If I may just ask, please lighten up on the back end, it's overly heavy back there.

Caly 3
burgundy micarta
SS bolsters
satin XHP blade sounds good

I have a Caly 3 CF that I have carried almost daily for around 5 years ! Love that knife.... would love another sprint of it.
IMHO the Caly 3 has nicer proportions than the 3.5 sibling

I'm in for any and all Caly 3 coming down the pipe - one crazy idea I would love to see is a salt caly 3 frn :-)

Caly definitely on my radar. Lightweight or sprint, which ever drops first. The current zdp caly 3.5 almost got me to bite, but I'm not a fan of flat(as in not contoured), shiny carbon fiber, or the laminated blade.

XHP is the only benefit of going to Taichung, IMO, and it's a marginal benefit. Moki does an excellent job with F&F on these tricked-out lockbacks, and I don't think capacity/cost is any lower in Taiwan for this kind of project right now. (Moki has been making them for a long time.)

SG2 steel is on my radar after Larrin's recent writeup, but if VG10 has the best supply/predictability for the maker then that's still a good choice IMO. (I currently carry either a Super Blue or VG-10 Caly 3.5 every few weeks.)

Cobalt special is another Takefu stainless that we don't see a lot of.

I like bolsters. Nickel silver would be a nice look we don't see a lot of. Steel bolsters are also fine by me.

To get a sprint run off the ground, a wise man once told me “keep typing”. So....
You should update this post to note that anything short of an FRN lightweight version (which is practically a new knife on the manufacturing side) is unlikely to leave Japan.

Based on the 3" with Hap40 I'd guess if we see something like this it would be a 3.5 with Green and Hap40 laminate.

I am 100% on board for this. Really I’m on board for any new caly 3 or 3.5. Love these knives. What about K390 out of seki now that we are seeing it in the Delica line up?

I really like my Caly 3.5 in laminated ZDP189, and would be up for a sprint run.

My suggestion would be to contour those squared off handle edges.

Micarta sounds good.

Sorry, I’m not into the idea of bolsters on the Caly. I assume by ‘nickel’ you mean ‘nickel silver’? That’s actually brass. I really don’t like the way that brass can develop that horrible green verdigris over time, so I avoid it.

CTS-XHP doesn’t really offer anything for me that ZDP189 doesn’t do better.

If the model was made in Seki by Moki, that might limit the bladesteel options.

Like Panchango said, we never got a Caly 3.5 in HAP40.

Sal’s previously mentioned that SRS13 is available to them in Japan.

HAP5R, which is similar to Cruwear would also be interesting - maybe in monometal blades, if it’s available?

Whatever the steel though, Moki would have to go for it.

Steel bolsters I might consider. I’m curious if anyone who has a steel bolstered Caly can comment on how it affects the balance point and heft of the knife, compared to a non bolstered model?

One thing to consider with bolsters is they might necessitate a peened pivot pin. I prefer the adjustable pivot screw setup myself, even if the rest of the knife is pinned.
