this is why we need a blacked-out dlc manix 2 salt. ;)

yeah... it was tongue in cheek. i don’t think dlc really does a lot to prevent rust. as i stated earlier in this thread, i’ve seen aus8 rust through dlc, so it’s effectiveness is questionable. i just happen to want a black manix salt because that would match my favorite knife with my favorite steel and you wouldn’t have to worry about lc200n rusting under dlc like you do with these tool steels.
which aus8 knife?

AUS8 and DLC makes me think Cold Steel. And back then their DLC was absolute dookie. Nowadays (post cqi) it seems to be the best on the market.

it was a sog trident that belongs to a friend. he used it heavily in new orleans helping in the aftermath of katrina. it was wet for long periods. it typically takes quite a bit to make aus8 rust.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I haven't tried any coated SOG's, so I've got no idea how similar it is to Spydercos DLC. Maybe they used a different coating and that's why it rusted.

If anyone would care to swim in the gulf surf off and on for about 4-5 hours straight with an oil free native 5 m4 dlc clipped inside their shorts the whole time, we could compare it to this.

All that wiped off btw by rubbing/stropping on plain dry newspaper, no abrasives.

I've noticed that surface roughness plays a huge role in relative rust resistance even on supposedly stainless steels. Bead blasting, for instance, seems to be absolutely terrible and can cause normally stainless steels to rust in mildly humid conditions.

What to use to remove hardened black oxides from the pits in steel:
- Loctite Naval Jelly
- EvapOrust

I would use alcohol or acetone to pull out all the water. Dry the blade, wiping off the excess alcohol or acetone. Then using Renaissance Wax, COAT THE KNIFE WITH WAX. There are armory museums that use WAX to preserve armor.

Bladesmith Neill Schutte says, "My steel of preference is Böhler N690, RWL34 and CPM-154." "Protect carbon steel and stainless steel knives with a light coating of hand-buffed wax, not oil. Oil attracts dust as well as weakens the sheath. Renaissance Wax is the best!" I once bought an $800 dagger from Mr Schutte, and I think he knows what he is talking about.

This is what I am going to do.
