Where I live now (rural Georgia), if you want brag about a pm2 you'll likely run into a situation like this

https://youtu.be/WWl8EbNN8NM?t=25s
Funny because I used to carry a PM2 to work and a co-worker would pull that on me. "Vivi that's not a knife, let me use my 4" serrated tacticool blade!"

I still remember the day I got my Szabo folder. I took it into work and cut open a #50 bag of quikrete, and my co-worker was a little miffed that he didn't carry the biggest knife between us any more. :D

Shame I got my Voyager XL after we had each moved on to different jobs.
Haha, I've gotten funny comments at work on various 4 inch blades (4max, military, broken skull). "Dang Dave, you got enemies?" But everyone always thought they were cool.

There are no firm blade length restrictions where I live (Canada). It's all about intent: if you have a qualifying reason to publicly carry a folding knife of a particular size on your person, you can carry it.

Note that "self-defence" is not one of those reasons, but if you carry a folding knife as a tool for work or general-utility purposes, you should be good. I almost always carry a combo edge Delica 4, combo edge Native 5, or a Spyder edge Salt 2/Tasman Salt 2 for my job—a 3-inch folder with partial or full serrations is the sweet spot for me as far as work utility & carryability.

Outside of work however, I used to EDC a Leatherman Skeletool CX because of the potential legal ramifications of my personal-use knife being interpreted by the law as a weapon instead of a tool (****, "tool" is right there in the name!). Eventually, I switched to carrying a Dragonfly paired with a Leatherman Style PS (a small, knifeless multitool)—taken together, they're lighter than the Skeletool & I can use the knife without having to deal with a multi-tool's boxy ergonomics. I find that the Dragonfly's blade is sufficient for 99% of my non-work related "convenience cutting" needs & because of its diminutive size & non-intimidating appearance, I don't really worry that it will be mistaken for a knife purposely-designed to be a weapon (by most people, anyway... I had a manager who said that my Dragonfly looked "scary").

Isn't that pitiful? One wonders how he/she manages to get through life being so timorous.

Had someone once act shocked about one of mine, was a Military.

They were slicing up watermelons and other fruit...

I told her to sit that knife on the table she was using at the time, it was HUGE, like 12" bladed knife they use to cut large fruit with.

I put down my Military next to it...

She started laughing and said never mind.... I told her to carry on..

Case and point, perception is a powerful thing...

I am a bit speechless here. Not everybody should own a gun. The daughter almost took out her mother. WT#!

Responsible people should all own guns, if they don't have one they need to get one IMO. And they need to learn how to use it correctly and safely.

However there are those who would be hazardous to themselves and others with a spork..... LOL

I doubt “The Best” of anything actually exists.

Within a very short time of receiving my very first Military I reckoned it was the very best, albeit large EDC folder I’d ever handled and I still think it is. However, I learnt to sharpen SE blades and consequently started carrying my little SE HB Ladybug … one extreme to the other but I find the little Ladybug to be in general terms way handier than the Military in my personal daily use. It cuts heavy pallet strapping for example easier than the Military, cable ties, you couldn’t compare the two, same with cordage and it makes for a great little fork in a pinch.

The biggest drawback I find in carrying the little knife is I have little panic attacks thinking I lost it a few times a day because it’s hard to feel in some pockets.

Almost.
There were several different ways to handle this one. I have no problem with their way.

No one should be forced to own a gun.

Of course not EVERYONE should own a gun. Same goes for absolutely anything. But if you are a responsible individual and value your life, your family, your livelihood, and your property, and are aware of (historically) what overreaching governments are capable of......

Perhaps I should have phrased my sentiment about this situation differently. Or not comment at all.

Look, I wasn't there. Who knows what happened before or off camera. I will say this. Neither of them were prepared for the situation they have put themselves in. They locked themselves in a store with an armed perp. Only by dumb luck they were not killed. Between the fumbling of the guns, the shooting out the front door with disregard of who may have been outside, the daughter shooting at the perp and mom dancing together, there was all kinds of wrong going on there.

I am not anti self defense, or anti gun. I participated in some tactical training with couple of buddies, (one of whom was in S.W.A.T.) over a course of couple of years.

This made me cringe.

Some sort of professional training would have been a good idea.

Bloke I am truly appreciative of your contributions here. I have had many truly excellent laughs thanks to things you have posted (such as the above).

And as you said, there is no truly "best" of anything. I always want to kick myself when I ask something like "what is the best thing that happened to you yesterday". The only true right answer is "it depends" -- and hopefully there were a lot of good things that happened to you yesterday, any one will do.

And I suppose that is what the original post asked when it said "what do you think?" So I said what I think -- PM2 is ideal for me -- but I don't have any legal issues to contend with here in Arizona. In general for me bigger is better -- but that is simply "what I think".

I guess the thread may have veered off when some peoples reasons for EDC carry turned to self defense. Ssome people carry a knife to open packages and clean dirt out from under their nails. Nothing wrong with either one in my book, but it tends towards different answers.
