Hey Peace, don't ever underestimate a small knife. Ah, hahaha! :eek:PeaceInOurTime wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 12:53 amThey say the smaller ones often inject more venom, and once they get a taste for blood... Just be sure to lock it in it's cage when you sleep at night...
Hey Joe, I use a PE HB Tasman to clean fish and the only SE's I have are H1 so I've got nothing to compare it too but it doesn't seem to leave anything to be desired.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 2:06 pmHey Brother BLOKE do you also use H-1 in plain edge?? or have your results been similar to mine and mainly find H-1 to be a blade steel for serrated edges only?
I've heard you guys have got some really tough aquatic plants over there in the "Outback". I know you guys have several species of reeds and other assorted aquatic plants. I've often wondered if you guys have anything similar to the Cattail plants we have here in ponds, swamps and shallow water areas?
The plant I trimmed wasn't aquatic but the stems were quite woody so they were like cutting green sticks. I don't know about Cattails but as you can imagine we have all sorts of reeds in our swamp lands. :)
Hey Blue, I'm good and the funny thing is, I've had worse scratches playing with our crazy cat. The cut is on the ball of my palm about 3/8" long and just broke the skin. It's strange that it bled so much. :)
Hey Connor, rookie error mate. :o I was shielding stems I didn't want to cut with the back of my fingers of my left hand, cutting towards me and the tip which is bloody sharp even though I've broken a bit off it just nicked me.

Re: Which steels did you carry today?
Very interesting to see the top 5 or 6 from week 1.
I know H1 is popular, but I wouldn’t have guessed by such a large margin.
I wonder if H1 benefits from the ‘backup knife’ factor, as Victorinox 1.4110 obviously does as well?
I wouldn’t necessarily have picked CTS-XHP to be up there either. I like it a lot, although I only have it in the CF Chap. It was interesting that it seemed to come in below a true stainless in Larrin’s recent corrosion resistance table.
I’ve been out and about, away from home for a few days.
I was well sorted with:
Cruwear (PM2)
1.4110 (Vic Soldier)
And C70 (A. Wright Lambsfoot slipjoint, as usual).

Both of those are primary carries for me, not backupsCambertree wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:55 pmVery interesting to see the top 5 or 6 from week 1.

I was equally surprised to see H1 on top in a week... never would have guessed.

Re: Which steels did you carry today?
Interesting. This thread made me realise that if I kept a personal tally of most carried steels for a year, Vic 1.4110 or a simple carbon steel like C70 or 1095 would probably come out far in front.
I usually have a Vic Classic or similar 58mm SAK on my keys, and a small traditional slipjoint for discreet use. I also often have a backup Huntsman, Pioneer or Soldier in a bag if I have one, for the tools.
I personally don’t carry Leathermans much, although I have quite a few, due to their right hand bias.
The primary EDC slot gets swapped around a bit.
Most used steels on the other hand, might well be different again.

.....
Plus: I am surprised that BD1 and BD1N each only got ONE single mention so far. Thought it would be more, given all the "baseline" Para 3 LW and Manix 2 LW that are seemingly out there...

Re: Which steels did you carry today?
my guess is this is due to the greatness that is spyderedge h1. why carry a combo blade when you can have your favorite plain edge steel and a backup blade that requires very little maintenance and has a wicked serration pattern made by the best?Cambertree wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:55 pmVery interesting to see the top 5 or 6 from week 1.

Re: Which steels did you carry today?
Ha ha, I'd been away from the forum for a few days Wartstein, and only checked the running totals in post 1. Now I've caught up on reading the whole thread, I see I've basically paraphrased your earlier observation! :) Oh well, we often seem to think alike! :p :D I'm glad you're enjoying your SE Pac Salt.
Yeah, that's pretty much how SE H1 gets a lot of carry with me. The Salts always come out for rough or dirty work like digging out roots or mixing up batches of soil.ladybug93 wrote: my guess is this is due to the greatness that is spyderedge h1. why carry a combo blade when you can have your favorite plain edge steel and a backup blade that requires very little maintenance and has a wicked serration pattern made by the best?

Also having SE H1 in a different blade shape like a hawkbill or straightedged blade adds even more versatility when paired with your favourite PE steel.
