Is it time for the PM2 to come with tip up carry from the factory?
Most people on forums and YouTube change the PM2 to tip up. I'd say it's a very large majority. So why not have it come that way from the factory? Figured I'd create a poll.

Not a hill i’d want to die on but it would be nice to not have the shiny patch left on the g10 from switching to tip up.
Tip down fans would feel the same if they came tip up from the factory.

Voted no because i basically don't care :)
I adapt in a day or two when switching between knives. Both tip up and down works for me, larger/longer knives def. work better tip down, but again i really don't care.

I don't mind which way it comes, so long as I have the ability to change it to the way I prefer :)

Does it even matter? It takes seconds to switch them around yourself.

Yeah it should come in the most popular position which I imagine is tip up, righty.

Tip down for life! I wish it was right hand tip down only without all the extra holes but that is just me being selfish.
Seriously? Who cares? Just move the clip.

If I recall correctly, Spyderco has mentioned this is in the past and they ship the PM2 with the clip tip down because they've noticed a majority of the PM2's they get back for warranty work have the clip positioned for tip down carry.

Until two days ago I would've agreed that it's easy enough to switch the clip. But then I got a pm2 where the clip screws won't screw into the tip up position, the liners don't seem to align with the g10 properly. Seems I'm not the only one that has experienced this. But yeah, if most people carry this model tip down, then it still makes sense to ship it that way.

Not only well past time but replace the liner lock with a side button compression lock like the Smock has.

Don’t care that much as I carry clip free a lot or I change to a deep carry Lynch titanium

I think that the PM2 carries great tip-down. The Para 3 would also, but for some reason on my copy the pocket clip changes the pivot tension.

For the record, it comes tip down because that's Eric Glesser's preference for the PM2. The designer's preference is actually what typically determines the "factory" clip position.

How about leaving the clip off and allowing the customer to install it in the manner they wish? A few seconds saved per knife and no unwanted shiny spots. I can already guess that warranty complaints would increase...sad.

I haven't voted yet because over the years I've yet to have anyone to convince me that "Tip UP" or "Tip Down" carry either one has any distinct advantages for EDC carry. Actually I was told by one guy a few years back that "Tip Down" carry has some safety advantages.Larry_Mott wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2019 3:59 amVoted no because i basically don't care :)

Now I'm just not into martial arts but maybe there are definite advantages I might be overlooking for "Tip Up" carry for those types of endeavors.
I've carried and used both options and I've found that I can deploy a blade just as easy with either option.
But I'm wide open and "all ears" for anyone to convince me otherwise.

Thanks for this insight, Mike. Perhaps you could expand a bit.Michael Janich wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2019 6:48 amFor the record, it comes tip down because that's Eric Glesser's preference for the PM2. The designer's preference is actually what typically determines the "factory" clip position.

With both Eric’s and Sal’s maker’s marks on the PM2, should we conclude from your comment that this iteration (as well as the Para3) is considered Eric’s even though it derives from Sal’s original?

I didn't vote. While my preference is RH tip up carry, I typically install deep carry clips on my knives.. so where the factory clip is originally positioned is kind of a moot point for me, as I'll be taking it off anyways..

I am comforted to know that at Spyderco it is policy to respect the opinion of the designer in preference to being blown about by the winds of popular sentiment. I am also grateful for 4-way clip mounting options, which includes the fifth option of no clip at all.Michael Janich wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2019 6:48 amFor the record, it comes tip down because that's Eric Glesser's preference for the PM2. Being a lefty it really doesn’t matter to me as it will get moved regardless.
